clean engine bay tips?
Tire foam, a tough sponge, some degraser since the important parts are out... and ALOT of time.
If you want to get your bay looking pristine you REALLY gotta put some elbow grease into it. I hope mantic69 sees this post cause he has the cleanest EG bay I've ever seen.

It doesn't really matter, generic brands will work. Get whatever they have.
Goto Autozone and say "Yea, my Mustang is really dirty, I need some good **** to clean it up" and they're help you out and treat you real respectable-like and whatnot.

I just sprayed everything w/ Simple Green, used the pressure washer, let it dry, then doused the whole engine bay with Armor All, then wiped everything down. No scrubbing, and this is the outcome:
the stuff i use is called "Foamy Engine Brite"
spray it on everything.. make sure everything is all soaked.. guys with engines, cover all your things that cant get wet,, ok anyways.. soak everything with that stuff, firewall, shock towers, engine, EVERYTHING.. let it sit for 15-20.. then with either a pressure washer, or regular running water with no pressure, just rinse completely.. it will be like new..
this was a quickie job me and pops did the night before i sold the car.. just to get all the grit n grime off the block and tranny..and the rest of the bay.. came out nice for a 15 minute job..

these type of things are dangerous to use, when my mom had a galant back in the day, i used one of these type things, and it discolored the air intake rubber thing.
One of the guys at a body shop that my dad's friends own said that they buy degreaser from BJ' Wholesale Club for like 4 bucks for a gallon, spray the whole engine down, rinse it off with HOT water, and then they blow all of the water out with compressed air to make sure it does corrode anything. When spring hit, im going up there to do this.

sorry i don't have a better picture, but that **** was just as shiny as PatrickGSR94's.
I copied and pasted this from a different thread i posted in 'cause i'm lazy
It helps if you clean the engine bay every month to keep build up from forming. The first cleaning is always the hardest. I use sythetic steel wool, a small wire brush, tooth brush, rags, and Simple Green for the degreaser.
As far as polishing it depends on the surface. If the surface is groved and/or scratched you would want to start with a fairly high rough grit sand paper something like 400 grit and work your way down. If the surface it fairly smooth it's best to use the finest grit you can get away with, this will save time and energy. I always finnish sanding with 2000 grit sand paper. After that i clean the area and polish it, i've been using mothers mag and aluminum polish for some time now and it does a pretty good job.
You have to be carful as some parts of the engine are coated with a corosion resistent layer. Sanding and even the polish can remove this layer causeing corosion/rust. If you remove this layer you will have to maintain it buy polishing it regualarly to prevent rust pitting and corrosion. You could also clear coat the part to prevent this.
This is what my engine bay looks like as a result. BTW, it may be for sale soon!
If you have any other questions let me know...

i say jus get a pressure washer and blast that mother phucker! then jus spray the whole engine bay either white or black (black would be a lot easier of course)

I just covered my distributor cap. Since I have HID's now I will probably cover the ballasts until I get the ABS plastic covers for them.
