Just installed my "ITR" cams...
Just installed them tonight in my 94 gsr. They are 98 itr cams i believe. The install was pretty straight forward.
So after everything was put back together we fired it up...it seemed to idle ok at first then after it warmed up it started to bounce a little bit. So we moved the timing till it would idle a little bit better (no timing gun). It ran better but still not perfect. Once u let off the gas and let the revs go down to idle it almost stalls, so im sure i need to get the timing adjusted more.
Anyways we took it out to see how it felt. So after the engine was warm I took her up to 4400 to hear this magical ITR cams vtec noise....boy was I disapointed...it sounded almost the same. But the car did seem to pull better in the mid to upper range so I dont know what to think. So pretty much it feels strong the stock but doest have the noise i was expecting.
Anyone have any ideas?

when u get a Skunk2 manifold...the vtec is so sick...its so damn loud bro...and thats the reason why i got caught for speeding coz the cops heard the vtec crossover and he gave me i ticket coz he thought i was going fast...but i was...i was actually racing a Maxima...it pulls hard too..just do be surprised with the low end...
i'm confused.. what's the big deal? who cares how loud it is at vtec? i noticed in recent "itr cam" threads that people seemed to care more about sound than performance. this place isn't what it used to be

First off, make sure your timing is correct by using a timing gun. Don't do it by trial and error. Next don't expect the gain to be super noticeable without proper tuning. You have to remember the redline for the Type R is higher than the Gsr and to get all the benefit of the cam you would need to a get a vafc and increase the redline and fuel to compensate for it. Also cam gears will yield you additional hp. Its all about the tuning. I also heard for some people who did their own install they accidentally missed a tooth on the belt and that throws the whole timing off and rough idle will occur, in addition to mild gain in power. Goodluck
yia im guessing the sk2 manifold will make the vtec louder. because the gsr has that dual runner. which vtec opens at 4500 and where the secondarys open mid 5000 range. which as the sk2 it only has a single.

the reason why i care so much is cuz i dont want to be ripped off with someone selling me gsr or b16 cams

you still aren't taking notice that '98 spec are milder than '00 spec (probably noticably). that (and lack of VAFC / tuning / gears) is probably why you don't notice much.

The difference between 98 spec and CTR is 3 more degrees of duration on the intake cam. The exhaust cams are the same. That is the only difference. Supposedly the 00 ITR cams are the same as CTR spec cams, but they have different part numbers.
