mounting seat to floor
for those who have ever met me, u know i need more leg room in just about any car i drive. i was thinking about picking up a race seat and mounting it directly to the floor. but i was wondering if it is ok, safty wise, to just mount the seat to the floor pan. maybe i am missing something in the ways that others have done it. any help will be much appretiated. TIA

i would try to use the existing bolt holes - the floorpan is rather thin, however the stock mounting locations are reinforced. A race shop fabricator should be able to make you a bracket.
It is neither safe nor wise to bolt directly to the floor pan, to thin. Build a frame and attach it to reinforced portions of the chassis; sills, tunnel.
I posted this in a similar thread recently.
For the front: Used 1/2" X 2" rectangular tubing to span from tranny tunnel to rail (sill). Used 16 ga metal welded to areas where tubing would terminate to beef up the area & spread the load. Floorpan attached to the tubing mid-span. For the rear: Used section of tubing welded to the rail. Gusset attached to top of rail & tubing to triangulate. Also tied into floorpan. This piece did not span the whole distance. Incorporated the 'stock' mount on the other side. Used material welded to the raised area. Tied it into the tran. tunnel & down to floorpan. The piece of 16 ga used @ the tran. tunnel for reinforcement was made large enough to help reinforce the seat belt anchor area as well. FIA approved Sparco (or you could use Momo - they look/fit the same) slider attached to the tubing. Modified Sparco side mount bracket to fit slider. Sorry, no pics.

Spec,
Your best bet if you want to pick up a racing bucket is to find the one that fits you best. This is very important. Find a shop or place that carries a bunch of seats you can try. Once you have that. Take it to a reputible race fab shop that can help you mount it properly and provide you with the extra leg room you need. It may not require a custom mount be made, but a good shop can help you determine that.
