Default Mugen Header & Exhaust?

Does anyone out there have a 5th Gen Prelude that has a Mugen Header and Exhaust? If so, how much louder is it than the stock exhaust? The guy at King Motorsports says that it's not much louder than stock. Is this true?

Noise is relative.. it's fairly quiet for a performance exhaust.

I don't know about the header, but I do know the exhaust isn't anywhere near stock. I don't know why SOME people say exhausts like the Mugen and Apexi WS are stock quiet...they aren't. The Apexi WS is quieter than the Mugen, but the Mugen can get pretty loud. I know a kid with a Mugen on his car and I can hear him pull away from my house when I'm in my basement, and he doesn't have an intake so I know it's the exhaust. It's not super loud, but it isn't quiet either. It is though, the best sounding exhaust IMO out there, the sound alone is worth the price. The power gains I'm not too sure about, but from some people I heard the gains are the same as a full cat-back exhaust. I've never seen a dyno, so I'm not 100% sure.

I agree as well. I've heard the Mugen and maybe it's quiet just putting around town but when you get on it it's much louder then stock.

As for the Apex WS I have to say it's only slightly louder then stock even when getting on it. Mine is a tough call between the intake and the exhaust for which is louder.

I've ridden in a number of cars equipped with the quieter exhausts such as Mugen, WS, and G-Power - inside the car, intake noise is much louder than the exhaust noise from these systems I can't really hear the exhaust from in the car - no droning to speak of - Outside, they are louder than the silent stock system, but they aren't what I'd call obnoxious - they tend to be deepish, not farty or chainsaw-like.

Andrew has that setup (Alckarits) or something like that. I am sure he can give you the info you need. he has the Mugen header and exhaust with and excellent dyno to go along with with.

The WS really is literally stock quiet.

the Apexi WS is the quietest aftermarket exhasut i have ever heard. the MUGEN however is quiet, yet not as quiet as the WS. and i think that you could get more hp from a $400 apexi n1 with a $35 test pipe than a $1000 mugen exhaust.

Thanks for all the responses. I've asked this because I've already ordered the Mugen header from King to replace my "ailing" factory A-pipe* and I was wondering whether or not to get the Mugen cat-back when my stock exhaust needs replacing. As long as it's quiet at normal rpms ( around 3k), that will be fine. I don't really care what it sounds like when I'm pushing 7k!

* The A-Pipe has a double wall and the interior wall is coming apart making a very annoying resonating sound between 2-3k. I have a '98 Type Sh with 50k miles and bone stock except for a K & N drop-in filter that I just bought. I've heard this is common, but I think this is happening very prematurely!

The Mugen exhaust and header combo is louder than stock, but as mentioned, noise is relative.

At highway speeds and "putting" around town, the exhaust is nearly as quiet as stock. The header is a little noisier, but you really have to listen for it to notice. Under normal driving conditions though, the exhaust and header combo is barely louder than stock, both inside and outside the car.

Under wide-open-throttle this combo becomes louder than stock. It is noticeable, but not obnoxious. It has a very nice "whale" to it when you are in VTEC. Thus far I have had this combo for 2.5 years with 50k miles of all weather driving and the system has held up perfectly.

Hope that helps,
Brian.
