H22A1 93-96 prelude VTEC (USDM)
H22A4 97-up prelude (USDM)
H22A 92-up prelude-all (JDM)

JDM H22A has a slightly higher compression than the two USDM motors, and the typeS motor is the strongest one with about 220ps. euroR is also there.
also H22A1 is OBD1 whereas H22A4 is ODB2.

out of pure circumstance, yes... but OBD stands for On-Board Diagnostics, and the number represents the generation of the system. OBD1 was started in the early nineties, cant remember what year. OBD2 started in the 1996 model year for Honda

h22a1 has a closed deck, which is superior for running boost. Early jdm h22's had closed deck as well, not sure if they switched to open deck on obd2 motors or the 5th gen transition (the usdm 96 h22a1 is obd2 but has a closed deck) Type s motors are all obd2, so pick up a p13 ecu and skunk2 harness, then do some tuning on a vafc and you'll be in good shape - I wouldn't waste all the extra cash on the type S motor when you can build (block - $850 - head - $1500) a closed deck h22 for the same amount. Decking the block is no real task, however.
