sony amp over current's at the slightest signal
I redid my entire sub box and amp rack yesterday, and everything hooked up and worked just fine. I hit on the sub pretty hard for a about 10 minutes without any problems. But then it started where after a few minutes of loud bass, the amp would shut off due to over current. Sony says this is from shorted speaker wire or too low of an impedence. Now this problem has grown to the amp shutting off whenever the slightest signal is sent to it. I checked the wires, and there's no shorts and the sub is wired at 2 ohm. The amp is an xplod 3001-sxd and 1 ohm stable. The sub is an infinity kappa perfect 12.1d (dvc). Is there anything else that can cause this or any other amp the over current out?
PS - if you could, refer me to some decent car audio message boards where I might be able to find an answer

if that amp has a current selector on the bottom, make sure it is at 1 ohm. it sounds like a bad sub is your problem. be sure that you are getting 12v and a solid ground.
no current selector, it's at 2 ohm's anyway. 12v is solid as can be. i should note...at very low volumes the sub distorts, but you can only hear it up real close to the sub, if you turn the volume up the bass drowns it out...until the amp shuts off that is
must have been a defective sub. that sub takes 350 rms and 1400 peak, i'd be lucky if my amp put out 75% that at 2 ohm's. oh well, it's comin out tomorrow and i'll hook it up to my home theater amp and see

update: i took the sub out of the box (sealed) and OMG the most disgusting burnt smell came out. i had to step outside and get some fresh air it was so strong. so i guess that answers that problem
