Default differences between 88/89 and 90/91?

I'm new to the EF civics. Before this I had a 96 integra LS and than a 95 civic cx with an sir2 and mucho other stuff, but both got stolen so I'm moving on to EF's, this time the car won't see the street however, it will be a strict track car. The question I have is, what are the differences between the 88/89's and the 90/91's? I know the front bumpers are different and I hear that the newer ones are more desirable. Can anybody post pics or explain any and all differences? I tried looking in the "post pics of your car" post, but not too many people listed the year of their cars. . .

the difference in the front bumpers is mainly just the bumper lenses.. they are longer and clear on the 90/91..

but there are so many more differences from 88-91 that if you use a bumper to decide which car you want, well, that's just sad..

Well I already have the car. I bought a shell from a junkyard, I just don't know what year it is, since there is no title. All I'm asking is for someone to post a picture of both different bumpers. I would look at the year the car was made, but its at my friends house 130 miles away and I won't be there for another couple of days.

maybe you should have told us this first.. there is so many different ways to seperate them than the front bumper.. and besides, you can bolt on a 90-91 bumper to an 88-89.

I'm under the impression that the 90/91's had the stupid seat belt anchorage that runs along the door frame. That alone would keep me from buying one.

Wes.

yes the seat belts are actually in the doors.. so if u leave the belt hanging a bit it hits your door panel and ***** it all up..!

The easist way i've found to identify the 88-89 from 90-91. Is that the corner lenses on 88-89 have 2 exposed screws you can see. near the fender wheel. That bolt the lense on.Also the seat belts are mounted in the doors on the 90-91 models. May be this will help.

THe 90-91 Instrument bezzel is more rounded off. The Hazzard switch would be on the cluster also, not on the column.

thanks for the pics efzero. The car doesn't have corner lenses, but it does have bumper lenses, and I think its an 88/89 based on that. I don't care about the seatbelts, I'll be removing the doorpanels, window glass and reskinning them with aluminum sheet. Once I have the car in front of me, I'll make a list of everything I'm getting rid of and I'll post it in the for sale thread in this forum. Thanks for the help guys. I have another question concerning brakes. If I wanted to upgrade the booster/master cylinder to a bigger one, what cars do I have to choose from? Does it have to be a DA/EF or can I take one from any integra or civic? Also, What would be the best donor car for a rear disc conversion, a 90/91 si?

grap one from a 1989 Accord LX-i. 90-91 CRX Si would be best for the rear brake swap.. DA needs some mods, but i dunno since i already have rear disks..

OK for exterior, the 88,89 side moldings are longer and have like a dip in the middle of them , the 90/91 have a fat one that sticks out pretty far. On the front and rear bumper the 88/89 have sidemoldings that are plastic all the way on top of the bumper. The 88,89 bumper lenses came Amber from honda not clear with amber insert as 90/91. The 88/89 tails have a reverse light that doesnt take up the last inner part of the tail its just imbeded into it. The 90/91 the reverse takes up the whole end of the taillight. The door pillar (black piece on door) is plastic on 88/89 but metal on 90/91 and its also a little thicker. If your car was an Si model then your seats should look diff also. There was no 88 Si only 89-91

If u need any more help PM me

thanks for all the help guys. Does anyone know what kind of wieght I should be looking at on an 89 si fully gutted with one 15 lb race bucket and no sunroof? I'm gonna go locate an 89 lxi master cylinder. Does anyone know what size it is, and what size comes stock? Do I need a90/91 si proportioning valve for the rear discs?
