Default JDM S1 tranny...LS 5th gear.

I do alot of highway driving and my car just rev's to damn high with the S1, but I love 1-4th gears. Is it possible to put in the LS 5th gear? If so, how much can I expect to pay for this, the tranny is already off the car.

Actually I have that exact same set up in my tranny. S1 1-4 US LS 5th. Im at 3500 to 4000rpms at 75-80 MPH. easy driving. However. I have a B20vtec and have the torque to get the car to move at lower rpms. I do not recommend this for a B16. just not enough torque. However i have another LS 5th gear and if you want to ship the tranny i will do it for you cheap. Or wait til after christmas when i do my friends and i will post pics on how to do this,
M

ditto, you need extra tq to still be able to accelerate at a decent rate

You do pose a good point about the lack of torque to accelerate. However, I am almost willing to sacrafice the 5th gear acceleration just because about 90% of my driving is highway driving. I live and work in the country, not in a city of any sort. I only have 1 stop sign on my way to work.

I think what you guys are saying is that when you change that 5th gear it changes the gear ratio's of all 5 gears right?

No just fifth, I think you are thinking of a final drive swap.

The final drive is the only part in the tranny that will effect all gears. I will be posting pics of the set up sooner than i thought. My tranny needs an LSD really bad now. With the 2.0L i can almost drive off the road with the amount of TQ steer it produces. meaning i will be tearing mine down very soon. Need to replace some bearings as well. getting tired of that whinning noise in the lower gears.
I will also be offering ectra parts at crackhead prices if any would like to try the same. i have 3 LS 5th gears. so keep an eye out for the post.
