I just want to understand the legalities(?) of having the liscence plate on the front? is that a law or is it prefernce or what? I live in arizona and you dont need to have one. what other states require it on the front?

Stallone "I am the LAW"...uhhhh....yeah, it's required on the front in CA. Putting it on the dash doesn't work as well

it's the law. just leave it on or put it back on, and nobody will bother you for something so stupid and silly. if you have mods in your car, you don't need that kind of negative attention.

i live in cali, bay area to be more specific. it just so happens that i live in a rich, white town that has vitrually no imports so cops don't care at all (no red light cameras either). i do put it on when i head to fremont, SF, etc. though

its the law in CA to have the front plate on and MOUNTED on the front bumper....

I have lived in both So Cal and Nor Cal.. born and raised (and live there now) in So Cal and went to college for 4 years in Nor Cal... having the license plate frame in the dash doesn't count.. it has to be mounted on the front bumper.... I have my plates on because I don't want to deal w/ getting pulled over while I'm trying to get to work.. or even the hassle of being pulled over...

It has only been a problem for me in So Cal, I will get a ticket just parking my car w/ no front plate. I have never been stopped in Nor Cal because of it, but I dont spend too much time in the south east bay (Fremont etc), so that may be different than San Jo and north to Marin.

friends get busted for not having one up front... just do what the japanese racers do... have it at an angle where it's suppose to be mounted so that you won't get a red light ticket or a license plate ticket... problem solved... DMV never sent me a front plate so i don't know

Damn. I'd hate it to have a front plate on my car. Good thing I'm in AZ also.

I don't know about all of Cali, but in San Francisco its the law. Its $100 and can be issued to a PARKED unattended vehicle by DPT. Started in Jan 2002

if a cop wants to be an ******* then he will pull you over for it..thats just if hes looking for a reason to pull you over...same for loud exhausts and clear corners and little stuff like that...ive never been pulled over for not having one on ...but once when i got a speeding ticket he added the no license plate ticket cause i had it on the dash( it later got dropped anyways so it didnt matter )

i've heard that it's only illegal to have no license on a bumper that has holes for it to be bolted onto. When my brother got his front bumper on his prelude replaced (accident), i noticed there are no holes for the front plate to be screwed into. So, technically, if he lived in cali, he couldn't get a ticket for it because it's "impossible" to put the plate on the bumper. I'm not sure if that's just something i've heard or if it's true.

that is not true, its California law to have BOTH plates mounted on the front and rear bumpers. Your city and county dictates the fines.

actually he'll just say the dealer needed to do that. dealers do that to come cars these days; drill holes for the plates. he'll still ticket oyu.

I don't like the look of the front license plate, but I have it on my car to prevent any hassles. Also, I really don't have a problem with red light cameras, because I don't run red lights. They've also been proven to reduce accidents, so they seem to be doing their job.
