Gas needle is off, but by how much.
Well today I noticed my gas needle went down alot more then I would suspect since I did not drive it alot. So I am almost on E , I deceide to put 10 bucks in, which is normal. So I am filling it up and it stops at like 7.90 cents, I'm like odd, I look and its over flowing. I'm like wtf, this can't be right, 7.90 cents only fills it up about 5 and a half gallons. So that means when my needle was almost on E, I still had about 5 gallons left. Did my flaot in my gas tank just bite the dust, if so can I just go by the trip meter so I don't have to drop my tank. Any tips ? . Thanks
Oh by the way, anyone find it odd that I was just talking about autometer gauges and how the oem gauges ain't so accurate lol. Weird.

I forgot to add this, right now my car is filled up to the top. And its about this far
|| from the F, alittle closer actually. So is that how far I am off by, so when I was getting close to the E, I was not really, I still had like 1/4 of a tank left. So maybe now its back to normal and it just messed up before because I have not gas in about a week.Maybe I will let it get close to E again, and fill it up with 10 dollors again. And see what happens. I still want to know what you guys would do ?

I am pretty sure I can, it is under the little compartment. If so how hard is it to replace ? Or is it even worth the hassle ? I mean is it gonna stop working altogether soon. If its alittle off I can deal with it. I mean right now its full and alomst on F, but will it act up and go down or up more then it should ?
By the way, can this be because of a dirty fuel filter, I don't think so but just woundering. Also how much would a new sending unit run me, and would it be smart for me to get one from a junkyard ?
Well I did another search on this board, turns out I found some more topics. Seems that the sending unit is the problem most times in this case. My question now is, if I replace the sending unit, how would I know this fixed my problem. Is there anyway to test the old unit ?

Update : Yesterday I was sitting in the gas station and I just watched my needle go down. I was not getting gas, my friend had to grab something there. My car was on alittle incline so maybe this is why it went down, it went down to 1/4 of a tank. So I pull my car out of my garage today, its been about 10 hours since I was at the gas station, and when I pull my car out, its on alittle decline. And I noticed my needle went back up to alittle more then half of a tank. Now I can see why it would go down a, and then up cause of the inclines, but when the needle went down it never came back up intill the next day and I think it was because I parked on a decline. My question is why did it take so long to go back to normal and why did it only go back to normal when I was on the decline ? I understand the needle moves when your on a hill but it usually sits back to normal after your off. So could it be my gauge maybe ?

that happend to me... i kinda did the opposite than TorteX said.
i just unplugged my fuel pump(letting the needle drop all the way to the bottom, and then moved the needle to the middle of the E. seemed to of worked.
