Its called Dieseling...Its when there is unburnt fuel left over when you shut it off and its still burning it off......Do you rev it up or anything right before you shut it off? Is your car running Rich?

Dieseling can also occure when the timing is set too far off and the idle is wrong.

dieseling can occur too with high compression set ups. maybe there is a lot of carbon built up in your engine

A lot of times you wont have to worry about it running rich with MPFI unless things were done to it or something is causing it to think it needs more fuel..IE...Fuel filter dirty, Dirty injectors...ETC....As for the Idle for a 91 HF it should be around 550-650 according to a Chilton but another way to check it is look under your hood on either the bottom of the hood or on top of the aircleaner cover it should say it there also. Also your car is equiped with an EGR valve which also might be cause the problem. Otherwise things like the <MAP sensor and such also has a role in how much fuel goes in. Maybe a loose or leaking vacuum line? Just have a look around and see if you can see or hear anything.

OK next time you should have said what engine you have in there and not said a 91 HF cause all of the info could be differnt and in this case is different no you wouldnt be running an EGR since that motor isnt equiped with one.... I would definately check out the map sensor that could very well be causing your problem as well as the timing as mentioned above.
