Tire recommendatiions for driving school
I'm looking at attending http://www.thedriversedge.com driving school at Texas World speedway some time in March 2003. Anyone recommend a good tire set up or brand for a high speed roadcourse?
Thanks,
Will

Yes I know that one was for autox, but the same answers hold true for a driving school. Azenis are still the best for the money and hold up very well.

If you are looking to get onto DOT Race tires at somepoint, I would start with these. I see no benefit to starting on street tires only to switch to race tires later. If you are looking to save some money, try some Toyo RA-1s or older Kumhos since these are a little more durable and less expensive than the Hoosiers.

Not sure if TEXASLS95 is new to track events, or maybe even doing his first one, but I definitely would recommend street tires. DOT Race tires are pretty unforgivving for someone not used to high speed events. A street tire will make a lot of noise as it reaches its limit, a race tire is just gonna brake loose.
Plus, tires like the Falken Azenis are cheaper and will last longer than race tires.

Brett,
I'm just now starting with the SCCA solo club in Houston. I've heard that I'm better off with street tires due to getting a better understanding of my cars physics. The falken tires are a good idea for autocross, but I'm mot sure about a large road course like Texas world speedway 2.9 mile course. Thats way I asked. If anyone has run out there, E mail me to help me witha good tire combo. Here's a link if anyone wants to look. http://www.texasworldspeedway.com
Thanks

the azenis will be fine even on a big texas road course. I have used them at http://www.virclub.com and know others that have used them at http://www.cmpracetrack.com and http://www.lowesmotorspeedway.com

the only negative i see to the azenis for a road course is their tendency to loose traction as they heat up (more so than other "comparable" tires). even for autocross, when runs are tightly bunched, guys are hosing their tires down, trying to keep them cool enough to grip.
