Ok, so I saw this picture on ebay. Here is the link to the auction...

Ok, so look at this picture. That block stamp looks to be all sorts of fucked up. The numbers are all weird lookin, the numbers look crooked, and the stamp itself looks like the area has been completely sanded down and re-punched with B16B...hmmm, what do you guys think? Real CTR motor or not?

 

well the b looks funky
but i see an LSD stamp on the tranny

ive never seen a CTR block number up close (should have looked saturday ) but im pretty sure they arent 1,000,000 series blocks..

 

i dont know, but it sure does look like my hand writing..

Block should be atleast 5million series, correct? Considering most SiR2 motors were 5xxxxxx i would assume the newer CTR would be somewhere around that number. I see the LSD stamp, but i don't know, that block looks real sketchy to me...

 

there was a huge post on HT a while back on how JDM engine block stamps look all crappy ..but were authentic HONDA engravings

 

well remember the b16b block is the SAME as the integra type R.
so the blocknumbers are gonna be diffrent.
all a CTR motor is, is a destroked ITR motor.
its not a b16 engine.

 

Theres my B16 stamp. That motor came with an LSD tranny too. I dunno for sure either, I've never seen a ctr stamp. The metal does look a little lighter than the rest of the block, but thats also a pretty blurry picture....

 

well i emailed him and asked for a picture of the casting year on the head.
im interested to see what he will say.

 

As am I...I just hope no one gets ripped off when buying this, but I guess thats what you get for buying a car over ebay without even seeing the damn thing in person

 

car looks good.. take off the CTR stickers on the side of the car and i would consider buying it if it really is a CTR engine..

 

CTR block numbers do start with "1".....

BUT.....

that block has been re-stamped.... 110% for sure

you would have thought they would use the same 'B' at either end of the 16

 

the block looks shady, but import auto salvage is a good place, to deal with. mmm lets wait to see what the head stamp looks like...

Look carefully, it is the same "B", just angled a little differently.

 

Looks fake to me. Just like you said looks like some one sanded that little part off and restamped it some how.

 

as was said above, IAS is a legit place.
they are very reputable. if <u>anyone</u> would doubt the authenticity of that motor, larry jr would be the first.

also said above, the 2nd B is identical, it's just at a slight angle.

 

looks like some1 just carved those letters. lol

 

I believe that it may just be the low quality of the picture that is making the stamp look so bad. The Bs look to be correct and so does the 6 but with the distotion it doesnt look like its from the factory.

 

2nd "B" is angled...and misses '1' or '2' next 'B'
