Default Replacing studs

Oen of my studs broke off while changing a flat so now I have to take apart the hub and replace the stud. Turns out there was a bubble in the area where teh stud broke. POS Any advice before I start tearing apart my car?

we actually just ground down part of the hub and part of the stud backing plate and punched it out then did the same thing for the new one

Also is it safer to take the whole knuckle off before takin the hub off or take the hub off while the kunuckle is on the car? It seems that the wheel bearing could be damaged if using something like a slide hammer.
