Default HOW TO fiberglass a box?

I am looking to build a new box for my subs for my car. Rockford Fosgate 10" Power HX2's if anyone cares.... My problem is that I dont know how to fiberglass a box at all... I even had a design in mind kind of, but it would require both plexiglass and fiberglass to make... I was wondering if there is a detailed fiberglassing boxes site out there that someone could hit me up with the url for... I was also wondering if anyone could help me out with some HOW TO's stuff... I have read some posts here abuot fiberglassing and it seems simple enough.. I just want to know how... and if airspace is the same... If shape matters at all(from rectangle t maybe a lightbulb shape or a long akward shape if those would affect sound quality.)... Basically I want to knwo the works... Can anyone help me out?

Man, I dont mean to be mean, but I found nothing about fiberglassing in that whoe site I just spent the last 35 minutes scouring the whole thing... I know how to build a box from mdf and have build over 20 boxes so far... Everything from sealed, to the V-TEC styling..... I know the math and the how to's... I am looking for FIBERGLassing help... I dont know where to start, and from my understanding it can be expensive and frusterating if you dont have an idea of how to start or what is nessecary...

Alright, after eviewing these sites I found this one to be the most helpful...

http://members.iinet.net.au/~nismo/subs.html

It shows how to for a real newbie who has no clue....

The thing was I was thinking about building a PLEXI-glass box for my 2 10" 's.... I probably should have mentioned it and I was going to use fiberglass to make that box fit, along with amp racks and all... I like the whole fiberglassing thing, and think it looks really cool... I wanna ask if anyone out there has built a plexi-glass box before and if it sounds right and looks good... Fiberglass is great, but I am kinda looking to have a see through clear box for the actual subs..... I guess it would be best to say, i want a rectangular box for 2 10" 's that ae see through... I want to mount that on a fiberglass frame that will hold my amps below it and hold a couple of neons for added affect, and then fiberglass all the areas around the box to make it look flush and be flush, while still retaining the see-through effect...

What do you guys think of that? I will try and draw it up on paint if my comp will be nice, and maybe if the site will let me, i will post the drawings....

I really dont know though, I still intend to fiberglass kick panels and all... I was just reading my post and was like, wow.... I am an ***.... I really thank everyone for the info... much needed, and who knows, I havent started my box yet, so it may be fiberglassed all the way.... I just think having a see-throug box would be bad as hell, with it firing forwad and you being able to see through a piece of glass like a bandpass box... You know, where you could see the rear of the subs, neons, and amps beneath the box... All sitting there on a good looking frame that appears to be all the same thing connected... I just want to know if a box out of plexi-glass sounds worse, better than mdf... If it works at all... You know... I saw one guy who had a prelude on hondaprelude.com... before it went under... He made a V-TEC box out of PLexi-glass and it was clear... Needless to say, I was going to email him about it and all, but right after I saw it, the site went away... He had a pic of his little girl sitting inside the box (they had to stick here in through the opening for the 12") It looked pretty sweet cause u could see her clear as day, and his pic of it in the car, you could see the sub form the rear, but it had a wall protecting it.... I just wonder how it sounded and all... I am looking to take his box one step further and more professional if that kind of box works, I cna get the material... and all that other stuff adds up.... I will post my box once I get it underway... Porblem one, a 16 hit me fomr the side a couple days ago... Car in body shop..... He hit my rear left wheel, he swirved lanes, jackass... Getting sideswiped sucks, you dont even see it coming.... Good thing, only a small scratch to the paint, and a new independent suspension! He bent mine with his wheel/tire while hitting mine...

1.5" thick Plexiglass sheets = $$$$!!!

Oh, and good luck cutting it down to size. Remember, it's still plastic so it can melt with too much heat.

It'll be heavy, expensive, and time consuming. But I guess thats never stopped us before huh?! Good luck!

Well, it is messy and time consuming.. but you can shape it to your hearts content.. The fiberglass is stonrg, but some people say that it resonates so making it thicker is better.. Since you plan on having a see-thru portin on it then you will need to smooth that sucka out like a ****.. That will be one of the most time comsuming parts.. The payoff for all this work is that it will look bad *** and if properly designed it will sound bad ***.. It would be easier and cheaper if you use some MDF in the construction but its not necessary..

Thanks man... I have decided to go all out fiberglass and see about getting a protective piece of thin plexi so i can see through it and protect it from things i might keep in my trunk... I just need to know where I cna get fiberglass best kind for a box, laminate style, resin and anything else that is not easy to find.. I am looking towards getting it locally... I have an ACE, HOME DEPOT, LOWES, pretty much all the big nation wide kind of stores... PLUS, i got 3 car specialty stores real close, but my *** is not ready to be payed out of yet... KNOW what i mean? Man, I got UABcustoms.com setup within 3 miles of my house... ONE cool thing, no theft (knock on wood) really occurs locally at all... NO car, no house, only little theft by recieveing bullshit... NO real serious jacking... EXCEPT on occasion... 3 ppl in 15 years (all on crack)... SERIOUSLY TOO...

If you have a tap plastic - that's a great place to go.

You will want Polyester laminating resin. Don't get finishing resin unless you want to sand between layers. Finishing and lam resin are essentially the same, but finishing resin has a wax agent that comes to the surface during the cure cycle. Lam resin stays tacky when it cures. This helps to aid the bonding of layers to each other.

You should also try to hunt down some knytex. It's a hybrid fiber - between mat and cloth. It's the best stuff that i have used personally.

If you don't have a tap plastic, any marine supply shop will have the appropriate materials.
