VTEC kicking in???
Newb questions. I generally try to read a lot of post, and i use the search feauter quite frequently, but a lot of times stuff is just talked about like everyone knows everything! I dont, so i am asking now. People talk about the VTEC "kicking in" when does this exactly happen? I have a 99 Accord EX manual tran and i was wondering when this happens. Also, is there a govener on my car that will stop it at a certain RPM. Any info in the situation would be helpful. Like, is it bad to be punching it really hard and hitting the really high RPMs? Like besides bad gas mileage is it bad to be redlining it? what happens or what could happen? Like i'll see pictures or hear people talkign and they will say, or the pic will show them going 60+mph and they are in 2nd gear ? Just looking for info on anything related to these questions

we try to sway away from when vtec kicks in.. there will be a big heated arguement and no one will agree. everyone feels it at different spots they say. on top of that, some will mention there is two vtec points and other will justify that its more mechanical than that. so i say bout 5400? give or take
you car has a govenor on it as far as high speed limit. most ppl will say its like 120, others will mention that is because of lack of air and other stuff the car needs to keep it up at that point. i.e fuel and air with gas.... ive read that most cars did have a set limit or safety regulations.
redline is there for a reason to me.. now if you pull the car into those high rpms, you ll get some top end and continue to get power. i mean i would think that if you never let it get up there, you wouldnt feel some of the power you have. for most honda's are made for top end only. as i see if we dont have the luck of both top and lower end power... but the higher you get rpm wise.. the more fuel you ll consume so as long as your running ok and not leaning out. .. might be ok for a bit. but dont blow your engine
wow ive never posted so much i am off to bed. again this tired me out
Cant feel sh_t except it got louder..My beater have a greater sudden boost without vtec than my accord
with vtec and sh_t..
I guess every buttdyno is different.
I have my 2000 accord 4cyl vtec engagment at 3600. Vtec shouldn't "kick in", the switch over should be smooth if it is properly tuned with a VAFC. From experience I can tell you that if the engagment is above 4000 rpm you would be able to rev past that. It sounds really fucked up if you try to.

It all depends on what year of a VTEC motor you have. Most of the newer OBD II VTEC motors have the VTEC For fuel economy. I have a OBD I H22 and you can feel VTEC Kick, anything below 4700 you can't really feel, I have my VTEC kicking in at 6000 and it kicks hard. But my friend has a pre-OBD B16 and when that VTEC Kicks, It's loud and obnoxious and pulls. The reason for this is because with the older motors, VTEC is less controlled by so many sensors and emissions. there fore more power
The dyno tuner orginally set it a 3800, which showed a large jump.
I tried setting the engagment at 3500, though it didn't feel as smooth as at 3600. I'm going to need it dynoed again soon.

i feel the diff but cant hear it, sohc vtec is nothing compared to dohc vtec ...drive a prelude vtec or gsr and you'll know what i mean. but sohc vtec is not worthless, it does help out with hp but the capabilities are no where near dohc vtec motors.
i just installed a CAI and exhuast on my 94 accord ex...at about 5400 rpms or so it really starts to scream...it is so amazin...i would never of thought dat cuz its sohc andd most people say u cant really hear it unless its dohc but u can relaly hear a way different tone...i think its vtec...but i also heard dat vtec kicks in relaly low in these accords like 2300...i wish someone could really get down n dirty n get da really fact...
for me i cant tell either when vtec kicks in.i have a 96 accord ex The only thing i have noticed is at 3750rpm my rpm drops to 3250 and then climbs this is in 4th . I also have a cai and i car hear is scream so when is screams at 3750 the tone drops and the rpm drops too , when it gets to 3250 it screams again and goes pass 3750 again with no problem .... is that my vtec i dont know ? who the hell know anymore.................................owell?
technically your car is always in VTEC if equipped with it, the technical term for crossover is "high cam" meaning the VTEC system has engaged the high lobe on the cam
but VTEC is always running, processing info so it will properly engage at the right point
