problem installing CAI on 4g accord...
Ok, i just got my CAI for my 91 accord ex and i went to install it today and couldn't get it to work. I took everything out and the intake just barely fit, but where it runs by the battery, there is metal there going down where the filter should be attached. Do i have to get out my sawzall and cut a hole so my intake goes through that? I don't get it. I didn't think i had to cut anything out (at least not metal) to get this to fit. I did a search and found someone else had a problem but they just gave him the answer "unbolt the stock and bolt hte CAI in" which didn't help. Also, it's right next to hte battery, so the place that the intake has to go through to be outside teh engine compartment is what holds the battery. Is this right? what's the deal? thanks for your help
I have also heard of this. I however, cannot help you remedy this situation, but I have heard of people and actually have seen it done, that you place your battery else where (in your trunk) and just have your CAI there.
Correct me if i'm wrong.

well, that's an idea but not quite. See, the problem is the intake goes down, so even if i did remove the battery then the intake won't fit because it has to go down further. The battery really isn't in teh way, the tubing fits just fine to the side of it, i just didn't know if i have to cut a hole to run the tubing down in there or what. I'll just make a run to the shop tomorrow and put it on the lift and start cutting things and making it fit. Since nobody really has a good site explaining it i'll take pictures for you all also.
oh ya, another thing, the resonator or whatever that is that attaches to the fenderwell has a vacuum line going to it and then bakc up the way, what do i do with that vaccuum line? some people said to just remove it, there is no place to attach it to the new intake and i didn't want to just take the line off because it hooks to something. thanks for the help.

i installed a AEM CAI on my 90 accord EX this summer, so im sure i can help you w/ the problem
first of all remove the battery so u can use that sawzall freely. you will hafta cut a bigger hole so the piping can fit. after that put the battery back in and there you go. if u have any more questions just ask.

well if you want it to fit perfectly, good luck getting any power fitting a pipe through this:
so anyway yes you have to enlarge that hole. its pretty easy, I used a dremmel tool.

I JUST REALIZED I PUT UP THE WRONG PIC. i WILL GIVE YOU THE REAL PIC LATER. oh **** caps lock gggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg ggggggggggggggggggggggggggg
i had the same problem and as some people already suggested you have to enlarge the hole that connects the UPPER air box with the LOWER resonator assembly.
Considering that you have to remove the front bumper to get the resonator assembly unbolted off the car, the cutting of the hole takes additional 15 minutes if that. I have never bothered making pics of my install because it was straight foward, and the enlarging of the hole was a LOGICAL solution.
I believe 5th gen ('94-'97) and newer cars have the hole large enough to make the CAI install a true "bolt on".
Have fun with the power tools!
