Why won't the 92-95 front bumper fit on the same year 4 doors?

Why won't the 92-95 front bumper fit on the same year 4 doors?
My friend has a 4 door and me and him think the front air dam is hideous. The Hatch/coupe front bumper looks ten times better.
We know it won't work without modifying it, but why?
If he purchased side fender's would it work then without modifying it?

the coupe/hatch bumper is longer than the 4 door bumper.
the fenders dont need to be touched just the bumper has to be shortened to fit the 4 door

In order to fit the coupes bumper, youll need to get the fenders too. I THINK youll find a problem matching up the moldings of the (coupe)fender to the (4dr)door.
