possible dumb question
I'm not very knowledgable about cars. I have a friend who is so I think I know a bit more than the common person. But anway...that's beside the point. I own an '86 Accord LX and it's been having some probs in the cold here lately. It's the 2.0L 12-valve, non-fuel injected engine. Anyway, what's happening is every now and then I can't get the rpm's to go down. I'll start up my car, make sure it's good and warmed up and idling where it's supposed to be, then I'll go drive somewhere, and by the time I get to the place I'm going, I cant get the idle to go down below 1900 rpm or so. And if I try to just turn the car off, it shudders. God, I must sound like an old lady or housewife or something, but I really have no idea what to do. I've had people tell me it's my throttle body...my carb...choke...all kinds of stuff. Anyone have any insight? Thank you.
you are fine with that question, trust me it is bettter written and makes more sense than 75% of the questions asked on here....
is the choke manual or electronic? sounds like that is sticking or a vacuum line is backing up pressure somewhere.

Well, I would asume that it is manual, everything else on my car seems to be along those lines since it is so old. I guess I'll try getting some carb & choke cleaner and doing that.
Have you checked for vaccuum leaks. I would try that first. I couldn't find my service manual on the 3rd generation accords but I did find a few interesting things you may want to look into. Check this link.

I have also read that someone said they changed the coolant temp sensor, and one person changed the frequency valve selonoid (I've never heard of this). Other possiblities would be the fast idle valve (round thing behind the Throttlebody). Try to clean it with TB cleaner.

Yeah, definitely a vaccuum, I 've met this problem too on my 89 carburetor accord too. And just FYI, your engine is an A20A, just for quick reference. But the last number after the second A depends on the year and/or gen.
