Default b20 Vtec or....

if i put a b16 head(stock) on my b20b stock bottom end (39k miles) would i get much gains from this? or do i "need" the 10:1 - 13:1 + comp. and crazy cams? I just want to know if puttin a stock b16 head on my stock bottom end would be reliable and maybe upgrading stuff in the head later on. I want to know because if it isnt going to give me much gains and not be reliable woudl i be better off with a build up b20 head? Please talk me into building a b20/Vtec... i really want to do this! (have the $ and parts, just need to be encuarged a little )

vtec head on b20 is awesome. Just make sure you have a good breathing system, since the b20 doesn't have pcv system. So you will have to drill a hole in your valve cover and run that to a catch can or something.

no not much gain with stock bottom end! A friend of mine has a B20vtec in an EK and is running 12.60's all day. Resleeve the block and get high compression pistons, send the head out to portflow then it will make a difference!

the problem with CR-vtec and LS-vtec swaps is that unless they're done 100% correct, you wont get much power, sometimes vtec wont engage, and on top of all that....the engine is really sensitive, but if you get it done right, and take car of your engine, then yeah, go ahead and put your b16 on the b20 block...good luck

It's not that hard to get right.... If do you just throw a VTEC head on a stock B20 bottom end then you power gains will be slight but nothing amazing... Like jdmEKhb said, that's how fast our friend's EK is with stock sleeves bored .50mm over and high compression pistons.. That's really what I would recommend... The headwork can be done later but the bottom end is what you will want to get done first... It's not as sensitive as GRCuadros is making it out to be... Just do it right... And you'll be cool... There's not much to an LS/CRVTEC over building say a B18C besides plugging the stock oil feed passage, relocating dowel pins, and running an external feed... I would always recommend the B18C ... just send it out ot GE and have them sleeve it up to 85mm

so what your say is. instead of spending around 1,000 on makeing my engine a stock b20Vtec i would get better gains out of working over a spare head (mill, valve job, p&p, Cams, V.springs, valves, retainers, ect... ??
