finally hooked up vtec!!!!
well, i have a three way toggle switch in my car. one part is used for my dome light (i have no headliner and have a light on a switch) and i had the other part not being used. anywho, i got bored today after school, and just hooked the vtec solenoid up to the switch just for some fun.
all i can say is wow. i know its only a single slam, but anything above first gear just sucked after about 4 grand. it just quit pulling when i cam fell flat on its face. now it pulls very hard. i cant wait till it warms up and the track opens.
it literally feels like a different car. if you have a z6/y8 without vtec hooked up, i definately suggest it. you'll fall in love with your car again

Dude! how long have you had that car now? and you're just getting around to hooking up the VTEC? J/K, What you need to do is get a hold of an rpm switch so you don't mess things up by having it engaged at the wrong time.
That would be me. No vtec on my d16z6. I bought the car with the d16z6 in it and am trying to figure out the cheapest, best way to hook it up. I am selling this car in spring and want vtec hooked up for the selling aspect.
the cheapest one that i've heard of is the summet racing rpm activated switch. for simplest, and very cheapest i'd just get a toggle switch. i ususally hit it at 4k, because i redline at 6500
im looking to get a mugen chipped ecu or have mine chipped. i need to rev higher

Well, that is why I did the swap TO GET VTEC. What is the point of getting one of those motors and not hooking up the vtec? It's very simple and it make you faster, why not, unless you are turbo than you are fast anyway.

cheapest way next to a toggle switch...would be an RPM switch...i used MSD RPM switch...that was $75 and then the pills for it are $25 a set....but you can also do a pill activated AutoMeter Shiftlight...you can send your ECU to Zdyne...many ways...but best is to just get an RPM switch and call it a day
dude what were you thinking??? j/k Anyways man good to hear that you got your VTEC working....About when do you hit the toggle swtich?
usually i "flick it on" (love that) around 4 grand. thats where im gonna set it when i get my rpm activated switch (hopefully this week)
sometimes a little lower...it sucks still redlining at 6500
hopefully i'm doing a mugen chip on my stock si ecu...i need a higher revlimit

what do youo guys do for fuel management when vtec engages. you've got that extra lobe engaged but the same fuel layout going into the engine i'd say you'd get even better gains if you set up the fuel system to adjust it's self once vtec engages

um theres no need for that pal....the motor is already setup to adjust the fuel curve when vtec is engaged.....it doesnt matter what rpm its at....when the vtec selonoid is hit.....the ecu knows vtec is engaged and makes up for any lack of fuel....
i plan on either using the fpr off of a z6 or y8, or just getting an adjustable one. i also plan on having my ecu chiped, so i run a little rich all the time, and just about perfect when vtec is engaged.
i know that i dont have it runing idealy, but it still works fine for the time being
