Nope, the AEM EMS is a complete standalone unit.

It's too big to fit in the stock location. There is no way mine would fit under the 4th gen ecu plate.

On the 5th gen., I cutoff the center support bracket on the metal plate. With the EMS in the stock location, I then screwed on the bottom nuts onto the lower studs, left enough room for the metal plate to clear the ems, and left a little edge protruding from the studs/nut so the metal plate can rest/catch it. Then I screwed in the top nuts all the way down and placed a folded up shop rag between the ems and metal plate. It looks just like stock all covered up.

Yes, the ems can control boost. You will have to get a GM solenoid and wire it up to the ems. The solenoid is like $12. The ems also has knock control, 2 step rev limiter, N2O control, and a bunch of other features. It has a turbo timer feature but for stepper style idle control motors only (Mitsu and Toyota I think). Can't use it on the Honda pulsewidth idle control.

I've just messed around with it a little. The learning curve is kinda steep. I haven't finished building my motor yet, so I am just using it on the stock sohc.

Free, tuned it myself. Like boomslang said, the learning curve is steep but if you read all the documentation and understand how the ems works, it isn't all that bad.

That's cool if someone is selling them locally or you can just go to importparts.com. They don't have them listed but I did get a price of $1136 for my h22A4.

They said this isn't even a special.

Any standalone that comes with base maps needs to get tuned.

Apexi PFC users for example tell the seller what mods they have and the seller gives them a base map to work with. The base map will be good enough to get the car running, but you still need to get it tuned to your specific setup, temperature, etc.

I believe AEM EMS vendors sell their units with some base maps so you can have a car that starts but I'd have to check that with an AEM seller. But if so, then just like the Apexi PFC I you would have to fine tune it.
