squeeling noise?
This is not actually about my car, but I identify with you guys so I thought I'd ask here.
My girlfriend's manual tranny Suziki sidekick has, in the last few weeks, begun to squeel in any gear when it's really cold. After a while driving, it stops squeeling.
What could be the cause?
Thanks

My first guess is the throw out barring. Is it definatly coming from the tranny? Does the pitch change? Can you feel popping or excessive clutch petal vibrations?

We have both driven it, and neither of us has noticed any problem with the clutch (no popping or excessive vibration), nor does the pitch change at any time.
Thanks for your help, btw.

Damn why does everyone think when something is squeeling its the tranny. Check the belts. (power steering, a/c, alternator etc.) Oh ya I forgot it a Sidekick so no ac. Pahee. Look and see if they are loose or crack and need replacing.

The noise is most likely the belts. Probably need to get new ones, cause the ones on there now are probably worn out and just need to be replaced

My friends BMW did this recently, he added tranny oil and hasnt had a problem since. If its not that then its a belt as stated above.

The belts were replaced less than 6 months ago, but we will check them out, as well as the tranny oil. Thanks guys

Re: squeeling noise? (kotetu)
i got the same problem with my 88 civic. at first i thought it was the alternator belt because i just replaced the alt, but i was wrong. it was the break pad scraping on the rotor. i told a friend (mechanic) and he pointed it out to me. the only way i knew it wasn't the belt was when i turned the car off while approaching a redlight at about 10mph and it was still squealing. try doin that, if it squeals then it's the brakes if not, it's one of the belts.
