Default 90-93 auto tranny........ vs....... 94-97 auto tranny?

so what are the difference between the two?
I drove my friends 96ex auto yesterday night and it was way smoother that mine.
He had about 95k on the tranny and i have about the same on my accord. so what makes the 5th gen auto tranny smoother than the 4th gen?

***would a 95-97 auto tranny work on my 93 accord? are the axels the same spline count?

The harder shifts of the 4th gen were a known issue. I remeber when I first got mine and I asked if this was normal and the dealership said yes. I read a review in Consumer reports and their only complaint about the 4th gen Accord was the "abrupt" shifting.

Well i never beat on my tranny so i know it's a mint as it can possibaly be for that amount of milage, but i just wish i was smoother... ya feel what i'm say'n?

so can't i just swap out an 94-97 ex auto tranny in to my 93 f22? will the mount's line up and everything? what about axels?

I see what you're saying. It didn't bother me but I did notice it. I'm pretty sure all Accord trannys from 90-97 will bolt up to your engine. Others with more knowledge in this area will know for sure. If your tranny is "mint as can be", I would just stick with that. You never know what you're gonna get with a used tranny.

before swapping trannies, try putting in a can of BG Automatic Transmission Conditioner...it works well.

I believe that the Honda dealerships carry the BG additives; at least mine does.

Also, it might be as simple as the tranny fluid you use and the frequency of the fluid changes. My tranny when I had my '96 Lx was pretty jerky and not smooth. I had just been using Dexron II. I then started to use Genuine Honda and I would flush the tranny every 6,000 miles. Damn thing smoothened up
