Broken Spark Plug...need suggestions.
This is on my '94 Civic VX w/ 153k miles. I just bought the car from a small used car dealer who had no maintenance history for it so I'm doing all the usual maintenance to get off to a good start.
As you face the front of the car, the plug on the far right (not sure what number this is) broke off at the threads. The other 3 plugs came out with no problem but it has been awhile since they'd been changed as they were all quite dirty and the electrodes had visible wear. The terminal and entire electrode came out completely and the ceramic was not broken or cracked. But about 1/2" worth of thread is stuck in the engine.
I managed to get an easy out tool that fits and it does have a good bite on the threads. But before I try to break it loose I'd like to get some suggestions. I should probably use some penetrating oil or WD-40 on it and let it soak in for a day or two, no? Also, what can I do to prevent metal filings from falling into the engine? Am I better off just removing the head?
Anyone else have this problem? Any help would be appreciated!
Jim
