well as i was talking to my friend about going to the track soon we got on the subject of rental helmets. he said they were kinda gross because everyone sweats in them, do you think i should wear something on my head? dew rag?! or those masks that F1 drivers and WRC drivers wear, ski mask thing.

ok i know its kinda dumb but humor me.

You mean like the head condoms? haha, j/k, they're called balaclavas.

I have no idea if they're effective against bodily fluid swappage, but they make you look badass!

I use one of those inside my personal helmet to help keep it from getting sweaty inside. Once a helmet gets icky, I think that's pretty much it - you're not going to be able to really clean it back to like-new condition. Wearing a balaclava inside someone else's helmet will certainly put a barrier between you and their sweat. You can always wash it afterwards.

I have rented a helmet from OGracing. As I recall, they rented new helmets.

I wear a balaclava, due to having a beard.

I wouldn't worry so much about wearing a helmet someone else has worn, having loaned my (old) helmet to a few folks.

Agreed! I used to think it was just an AZ thing in the summer, but I later found that I sweat as much in my helmet when it's really cold outside. I'm leaning the same direction for underwear and suits even if it's not required.

That picture I stole from UPRacing.com, and they're around $35 a piece. I'm not sure where else to get 'em, so I can't compare prices, but that's somewhere to start.

You can buy new liners.

But why rent a helmet? If you're going to be doing autosports, a helmet is a really worthy investment, and drop in the fricken bucket overall. You can get decent SA helmets for like 200 easy.
