I've been busy with school for a while, so I hope this isn't a repeat topic......I searched and nothing came up.
What's the better intake for auto-x and street use? As far as powerband and throttle response go? How many of you have experience with the J's system?
Thanks for any help,
JP

If you are doing aggressive auto-x'ing and you would like better throttle.. J's
the comptech will give you the stock feel... which isn't bad at all. just don't go with AEM CAI for that =P

So are we talking a loss in power over stock with the J's, or is there still a minimal gain?
And are the gains that much more with the comptech over the J's even if you are putting the icebox on a stock intake arm?

Has anyone gotten around to ever checking intake charge, or under hood temperatures of a moving car? I would love to know if there really is a dramatic difference when the car is moving between a short and cold air intake?????
Or should i get comptech's short intake with the icebox, and then have either power or throttle response when i want??? The problem with that is the price: about $320 for the comptech package......

Look particularly at the 2nd graph. You see that the cai only has an advantage at the hump.

i never tried the j's but when i take off the cover of my stock intake (w/ k&n filter)... i feel better throttle response
this thread is going to go like most threads here, no clear direction, and no one having a definitive answer
there are not enough or lack of dynos on the j's intake. i had voluntered my j's intake almost 2 months ago. and no one in the bay area was willing to pay for the extra dyno time needed
I dont perticulary like the way the j's is built. The fitting that attached the intake body to the rubber adapter that went on the throttle body was built poor. it pretty much just "lays" in the compartment. there are no screws or bolts that hold it in place.
if you get it from jdmhondaparts, it does come with a bracket. but no one knows what to do with it
i wish i had the bracket, it most likely attaces the filter hose clamp then to the flat part of the engine bay. right next to the abs modulator
the comptech ice box, which i have had before, is a good all around setup. it is proven and works good.
i still like my j's for the right now throttle response. it is pretty fun, but i want even more response. it is all relative
in the next 2 weeks i will be hollowing out my high beam and run a pvc pipe with an air horn type piece at the end. this will allow both cold (read more power) air into the intake. and bring some more fresh and cold air in to the and around the engine to cool it some more. but i doubt it will cool the engine much at all.
I just need some more time, and want to make sure that it will make power before i go to the point of no return
another thing i have noticed. is that when the weather turns from cold to hot or reverse. I can notice it more with the j's. i think the comptech keeps the intake temp lower on average. vs j's warms up more when it is hot or warm out.
i think in the summer, the ice box will out perform the j's. in a car with out any cai tubing routed to the intake filter

So really........what should i be getting......I don't want poor build quality from either intake.......and then I don't want any risk of hydrolocking........I'm really at a crossroad here, and can't seem to make a final decision???
If I do infact go with the comptech, is there any benefit by going with their short ram to go along with the icebox??
Thanks again,
JP
