hey yall im having some trouble if anyone knows what to do pls give me alot of details. heres my problem ... i was leaving my apartment complex and my car started sputtering as if it didnt have enough power coming from the sparks and then it jus shut off! After this happen i tried to turn it back on and wat happens nothing ... then engine just turns and cranks as if attempting to start but no luck on getting it started. so i figured it was the wires or the cap and rotor but unfortunately it wasnt i checked my main relay by testing it on my brothers car ( same 91' hatch)and no luck with that either. so about four hours later me and like four of my friends are sitting here tryna fix it with one of my nieghbors who is a certified mechanic and we fixed the timing on it and yet it still wouldnt start but he had to go. I cant figure out what it is i try to start it now it almost starts but no luck.
we even tried to push start it a few times but it jus boggles slowly like it wants to turn on but it doesnt. if anyone can think of anything that could be wrong please respond as soon as possible i would appreciate a lot of responses thanx... sorry for the long *** novel i wrote. im stranded at home and i want to drive my baby again

by any chance do you have a CAI and has it been raining there alot?

 

no intake but a good amount of rain this week and last

 

do a compression check. that sounds just like my car. it ran for a day then the head gasket blew and then i put the new gasket on. and it never started cause the rings where gone.

 

thats exactly what happen to me i got the car the head gasket blew and the car was smoking like crazy cause of the water gettin in the engine. but anyways i changed it and it was running good for a week and now this. sorry if i sound like an idiot but what do they do in a compression test?? did you ever get yours started ?? and by rings do you mean your piston rings?? how much would any of that cost???

check if u getting fuel pressure.. maybe ur fuel pump died and u dont have any fuel.... release the hose to see if u got any pressure.... check for spark... make sure u getting spark,.. get a spark out and hold it against the header to see if it sparks.,.. check for any condensation inside the cap and rotor since it was raining a lot....i will post any more idead that pop into my head.....checl all gnds also!!!!!!

The same thing happen to me. the symptoms.....the car sputter just cruising at 30mph. Then suddenly it just die. Tried to restart by it just crank but won't turn over. Everything check out....fuel, spark,cap/rotor,injectors,resistor box. Finally I Decided to check the distributor....there was a loose connection. clean all connection in the distribution and securely mount them.

 

its sounds like its your distributor. i had the same problem with mines. i was just driving and it stop running. it will still have spark, but its not giving enough. heres an easy test:
take out your distributor.... should be 1 or 2 bolts holding it down... usually a 12. look at the bottom of the distributor and there is a piece that spins... its the internal rotor. spin it with your hand. if it spins its still good... if its wont spin, or its really hard to spin... then the internals are bad on the distributor.
if i need to explain it alittle better, ill try...

alright well i have a full tank of gas because i filled it up about a day before this happened but as far as the fuel pump and the filter i need to check those. but i smell the fuel when i try to crank the engine so i dont know what that could mean. so you guys think the distributor itself is bad?? because i changed the cap and rotor yesterday and it still didnt work. ill have to check that too then. how much does a distributor run for?? thanx again for everyon whose helping here.

sounds like a spark / dizzy problem to me gorund a spark plug to the valvcover and check for spark if its not that go on from there ..fuel... exc
