what tools do i need for swap?
um... a engine hoist, ball joint seperator, impact (helps), sockets, beer to help motivate u, weed to chill u out when **** aint going right and a big hammer (really to dent the fire wall for the alternator)
all basic tools like, screwdrivers, wrenches, sockets, pliers, jack and jack stands... and one of my favorite is the rubber mallet. seriously, i use it to loosen bolts all the time, its so much easier.
I wold definitely start out with a good socket set, some screwdrivers and good set of wrenches. Also sink some money into a decent tool box that will give you room to expand. That will at least get you started. There will always be something else you need.

you'll need a breaker bar and miscelaneous size sockets, ranging from 12 -17 mil. Get some deep sockets. If you have no tool kits whatsoever a good kit to get may be those mechanic craftsman sets they sell at home depot. Their quite a pretty penny but if you dont have necessary tools your gona need to go get a good set. Oh yeah a big *** hammer to pound in the fender wall and a punch to take out the pin in the shift linkage. I mean generally speaking your only gona need a couple of tools, i could probably sit down and tell you exactly what you need, its just that sometimes you'll have limited space or a socket will not fit in some tight spaces so its just best if you have a few tools.
hey thanks for the reply, this is the tools am looking at tell me if this would be a good starting set? is not cheap, but is not really expensive.. tell me your honest opinion about this set?

I bought a very large breaker bar, and had my dad get me a 3 foot and 6 foot length of pipe for leverage. I thought with this I'd be able to do the whole swap without the aid of air tools. I was wrong, once air tools entered my garage it was a world of difference. Get a hold of an impact gun at any cost, doing a swap is frustrating, having a device that can break any bolt loose eases the pain very well.
thats a nice set to start up with
make sure u get a compressor and a impact (makes life easier)
get a breaker bar, ball joint separator, dremel, oil pump (for tranny), 10mm, 12mm,13mm, 14mm,17mm,19mm,22mm, and etc on sockets(have that on tool box)
anti-seize, oill pan, another one for coolant, pliers, latex gloves, punch, hammer, cherry picker, floor jack, car stands, solder, shrink wrap tubing, crimpers, stripers, beer, taco bell! (gota have that), a camera, and 2 friends to help u out!

that is an excellent choice of tool set, just be sure to put everything back in its spot and itll be cake. You dont really need to go out and buy a impact gun and compressor, to tell you the truth we only used it a few times, i mean pulling and putting in your motor theres very little room for a impact gun. the only things we used it for was the crossmember and the top mount bolts. but all those you could do by hand, your gona have to go back and make sure their tight a couple days later anyways so no need. My suggestion to you is to have spare cash for anything that arises and to have some friends help you. and lots of patience.

it will def make it easier, i agree with you on that aspect but its not necessary, although sometimes some nuts are really pesky and do not wana come out. but a long *** fence pole and a breaker bar will fix that!

Another option would be an electric impact wrench. It will not be as strong but has always worked for me. Of course keep in mind if you use an impact wrench make sure you get impact sockets.
guys thank you for all the responses, i was looking at the sears website and i found a bunch of air tools. Am going to assume that one with a torque setting would be the appropiate one to get. Also how about the size and the HP of the compressor?
thanks
jose
