Anyone know anything about theft recovered Type R's?
I am looking for an Integra Type R desperatly. I know your probably thinking that their are plenty out there, but I am picky. I'm only interested in a 2001 with under 20,000 miles and preferable FBP. I have found two PY Type R's that meet my price and mileage standards. The only thing I'm worried about is the fact that they were both previously stolen and one was stripped. Does anyone have any experience with Theft Recovered Type R's? I was wanting to know if i will be able to tell a signifigant difference, obviously things have been put back to normal, but will it ever be the same, and if it has been restored do I really want to get involved in that mess? Please give me any info or advise you can!

well if they replaced the part that was stolen with original oem type r stuff its gonna be the same. except for the number badge. once its gone and u cant find the original u will never know the number of ur type r.
Myself, I would try to stayu away from a recovery Its going to be a biotch to insur and reg might also be a problem depending on what state your in and the local laws.
Also getting parts might end up being alot more then you expect and that only adds to the unseen costs- wich in the end might be near the price of a clean title R...
look around and find a clean R, although I like your idea of getting a dead one and saving it from the compactor.

ya, it's not really dead. Because the acura dealer supposidly put it all back to stock. the thing i'm worried about is insurance and if they did it the right way.

The thing about a theft recovery is you'll NEVER know what was wrong with it. The car might have had well over 15k in repairs, replacements, and restorations and you'll never know. After my Si was stolen for the second time I decided I couldn't live with it anymore (cause I knew what it'd been through). It's up to you if you have the whole attitude of, "what I don't know can't hurt me" but I'd personally like to know as much of a cars history as possible before purchasing.
go for it, not everyone can afford a clean titled low mileage ITR. i have a theft recovery ek and i have never regretted getting it. if you buy a theft recovery ITR try and find out what was taken out of it and replaced or fixed. it'd be great to get one with just a busted steering column and ignition switch that needed to be replaced.
let us know what you decide and what kind of price you get if you do get one...
