Default Flywheel question, To resurface or Not to resurface

I saw a thread on here that said honda flywheels are not supposed to be resurfaced. Because they will "wobble."
If they can't be resurfaced then what do you do to them when installing a new clutch?

hmm, i've never heard of that concern before. i would think that as long as the machine shop knows what they're doing they should be able to resurface it so that it remains balanced, etc. i dont see how it could be worse to not resurface it than to resurface it.

i'm pretty sure you can resurface them, what you're talking about might have been lightening them.. but when you do resurface it, make sure they put the 'step' when they do it, the clutch surface is supposed to be a little lower than where the pressure plate bolts on.

Well said.... There is no problem with resurfacing a factory flywheel, i just wouldn't recommend lightening one... Latez

I have been told to resurface them everytime you replace the clutch. I have on two and have had no probs.

They look nice and pretty after a resurface job too.

definitely resurface it. the old surface gets hot and a little glazed i think. anyways it will go from lookin all f*cked up to lookin brand new. itll wear in your new clutch evenly, too.

You should resurface it when installing a new clutch. A good machine shop should have no problems doing it for you.

... and generally, it only costs about $30 to have it done.

Do machine shops automatically put this 'step' in (like this is universal knowledge to do), or is it something that has to be asked for at the time of service[never installed a clutch before, btw]?

I never hurts to ask or at least make sure you and your machinist are on the same page.

well honestly ive installed my clutch without resurfacing the flywheel. if its just glazed looking then you can get a some fine sandpaper with a drill and just touch it up until you removed the glazing. ive been running my car with the new clutch for over 7000 miles now and it has no problems
