Default What is OBD?

I will be doing my GSR swap into my 93 Cx and have NO idea what the hell OBD is.
A guy at work dropped a b16 into his Ef and I was asking him about it and he really has no idea what OBD or OBD2 is.

Can someone explain this to me or lead me towards a thread that explains all these things with the harnesses etc.....

I read about converting OBD to OBD2 and this and that and just have NO idea what is going on......

Free bump for you and hopefully some help for me

You should have no problem doing the swap in your 93 civic..the plugs should all fit in place..but you will have to run 3 wire i believe..

its illegal to put a motor in a car thats older than the car you wont get through inspection if they find out

Use the stock EK harness... You'll need an 96-99 OBD2a P72/73 ECU or an OBD2-OBD1 harness converter running a chipped P28, P30, or P72... I would personally just look into an ITR computer.. The P72 ECU really bogs the car because the VTEC x-over is too low... Remember it has to be a 96-99 ECU in order to plug directly into the harness... OBD stands for On Board Diagnostics There are several different series... 91 and older = non OBD, 92-95 = OBD1, 96-98 for the Civic and 96-99 for Tegs ='s OBD2a, and 99+ Civics and 2000+ Tegs = OBD2b... The real difference between OBD2a and OBD2b are the ECU pinouts and plugs.. OBD2a ECU's use plug A,B,D where as OBD2b ECU's use A,B,C.... You'll need the OBD2a A,B,D plug in order to plug into your CX/DX harness... It will be easiest to use the stock DX injectors since they have the same flow rate as the GSR but with the OBD2 connector... Note you stock harness will NOT plug onto the 95 GSR injectors without getting new connectors... All B series and D series motors run 240cc injectors so it doesn't really make a difference, I would just go with the newer ones anyways... You'll also need an 96+ OBD2 GSR oil pump if you want to run a 96 or newer ECU since they look for the CKFS mounted on the oil pump housing... Rewire a few things such as the IAC, IAT, CKFS with new connectors... Add in VTEC, VTM, KS, and that's about it... If you need any help lemme know.... Peace
