If you are going to get a beater, get one that you won't mod. It kind of defeats the purpose if you are going to mod the beater because it just turns into another project car.

Othwerwise spend the money on the R and drive the **** out of the bitch. Afterall, it's only a car

i say get the beater. keep it stock looking on the outside and make it a sleeper. no theft problems and still fun to drive. the problem with the r is that it is fun to drive, but also attracts too much attention. most people that buy beaters often end up making them a second project car, and then you would have two cars to worry about. so make it a sleeper.

The point of a beater is not to mod it. If you were to buy that car, swap a dx or ex motor and be done with it.

if you can live with a 'beater' go get it..
I kinda regret getting mine because I always want my car to look good, feels good..

I want my EG to feel like the R.. but after calculating the $, I can buy another R if I wait for 1-2 more years!

make sure you get a real 'beater' or else you'll make it another project and spend $. (I spent quite a lot for a beater already!)
good thing I realize that I shouldn't spend more..

edit: Typos

Not to make light of your situation, but what did I tell you. Buying EG as a beater is like taking a kid to a toy store... too much tempation and you will spend money on the beater that you shouldn't.

Find a beater that you won't spend a dime on... just drive until it breaksdown. Good beaters can be had for ~$1,000.

I don't know where you live, but if it snows there I'd look in to an old subaru or volvo with all wheel drive... AWD = The **** in the snow

True.
Cosworth told me that when I got my EG..
and he is right..

I am still holding myself not to put the B series in it..
(but everyday I beat the engine so hard that I am wishing for it to blow!)

HeHeHe.. Learn from me.. get a real beater for less than $1K.

My father's car looking for a good home

The car is a 1990 ACCORD EX 4 door auto
the car runs great!! it has Auto remote start(winter) ,p/s, ice cold a/c, sunroof, sony radio, INterior is mint. (dad has OCD) never dirty
130k , new timing belt/pump,brakes, engine rad flush, new distributor, all serviced by honda,

new kyb shocks. The car is in excellent shape for the year.

excellent car for commute..

car has little rust on rear quarters but i put rust stop so it will no longer continue.
only problem is the power window switches got wet and passender and rear switches work when you play with the switches ,but the driver switch is fine.

anyway he gave me the car and i have no need for it, i'm willin to let the beast go for only 3k obo or trades are welcome

clean title etc etc it was my pop's commuter.

here are pics

I can't tell you how good it feels to drive my beater somewhere and not think twice about if it will still be there when I get out of work, the store or whatever

Beaters are the olnly way to fly. I don't car if mine gets snowed on, slushed on, dinged... whatever. No one will steal it and it starts every morning.

It prevents my Si from getting ravaged by another winter and keeps it youthful.

My next beater will be pricier, but it'll be a sleeper that I will get all my mods out of the way in the beginning and then leave it alone.

Buy a beater thats not worth modding, but will last you a year or two and get you thru the bad weather. Something like a subbie or volvo awd, like above mentioned

I have a '94 Olds 88, runs great also fine looking-> And can go anywhere without the worry...

Exactly. My 88 civic has 232k miles on it. but since i need it for daily driving (60-70 miles a day) i plan on getting single cam ZC from a place in long beach.
Later on if i don't need it as daily driver, then i'll mod it.

Definitely pick up a cheap beater. I drove my R through a Massachusetts winter last year and decided that 1 was enough I picked up a very nice 94 Nissan Sentra SE-R and made it completely safe and roadworthy and it rocks! I can now go anywhere and leave it. Mall, Movies, Boston, you name it. Keeps the R safe and sound at home in the garage. Good luck

Any Volvo AWD priced in the beater range should probably be avoided - the early 850's were somewhat troublesome. Got better after '95, and were finally sorted out with the 70 series in '98.

That said, a 240 with snow tires = no worries at all.

Nice car, and a great deal. I'll trade you my beater, a 91 Pontiac Trans Sport mini van!
