REAL-TIME Temperature Gauge...
I read the following in a SCC Magazine car review and it got it wondering...
I've wondered about this, but never given it serious thought. Specifically, when I started using Red Line Water Wetter, I noted a slight drop in overall temperature readings, but started realizing the damn temp gauge never moves once the engine reaches normal operating temperatures - uphill, downhill, all around the town. How can this be?
Does anyone know if putting the sensor in a different location will give you real-time measurements, or is it a lost cause?
...There's also a real temperature gauge. By real, we mean the gauge actually reads engine coolant temperature. In most other modern cars, the needle never moves, staying in the middle of the range while coolant temperature rises and falls as much as 40 degrees...

One of my buddys has a water temp gauge(autometer???) and when he turned the heat on in the car, the temp on the gauge dropped about 8-12 degrees. The stock gauge never moved

it is not the factory sensor, but the gauge in the dash.
It reads teh same from 160-210 degrees.
Word to the wise, if you EVER see your needle above 1/2, STOP!!!!!!
That is 230+ degrees.

Are you saying your bud hooked the aftermarket gauge up to the OEM sensor? If so, then this would be a good reason to install a new gauge cluster, including another tach.

I've wanted to install a nice set of gauges ever since I bought my CiViC, but couldn't really reconcile it in my mind. It didn't make a lot of sense to buy VDO's when my ride came with a full set of factory gauges. As a matter of fact, that's one of the reasons I bought a CiViC. I've bought cars in the past where this was an option and I had to pay extra, you know?
