If it is a legal exhaust it should have come with a 50 state legal certificate. Sometimes it would be legal in some states and illegal in others. But the legality only concerns smog rating.
Noise is a different matter though. Each state has a decibel rating you cannot excede.

actually its funny u post this. i just recently got pulled over and ticketed for "modified exhaust". mine is a Greddy SP2. but with an extra resonator added to the midpipe. hmm, strange i would get pulled over for that. the cop said my exhaust was too loud. WTF?? i chose to use this rather than a typical fart can muffler in hopes it would keep me out of this kind of ticket. didnt work so i was wondering if there was a site or some way to get the information on the Greddy SP2 to know if it is CARB exempt, 50 state legal or what its status is on legality. something to show the cop to prove i purchased this exhaust to prevent the situation i am in.

i know in most states it just has to be less than 98 decibles. which even the loudest of fart cans hardly ever see 98 decibles i think the cop was just bored and lookin for something to ticket me for really. KCMO police hate import tuners and bikes with a passion.

Please be familiar with your state's laws. Certain states do not allow ANY aftermarket parts that are not direct OEM-approved replacements. It does not matter what the dB rating is at all.

^^^that...your exhaust may be 50 state legal but that is usually only for smog and to tell you the truth any catback for our cars is 50 state legal since there is no smog equipment on it...technically in cali it is illegal to modify any exhaust for sound...thus making any non-oem direct replacement illegal

Paint it Black. They are attracted to shiny objects.

If it was a dull colour, or dark. Less likely to be an issue.

When i got pulled over for having a Magnaflow w/silencer....ultra quiet. Officer said excessive noise. I asked how many decibels i had.... he didn't know what that meant.

Then i asked if he had a decibel gun to measure the excessive noise he was citing me for. He said i'll let you off with a warning..... BS!
