has anyone ever heard of cars in japan being illegal when they exceed 30k miles?
navy here but I'll be station on a marine base (Iwakuni JP)
Yeah, the inspection fee's get higher as the car's get older, but those of us here from the US in the military are on SOFA status, so we dont take it in the rear the same...
It costs anywhere from $200-500 every 2 years for a JCI, and my insurance for the year came with the car, and next year's will be around $200 for the year.
I'm stationed at Kadena in Okinawa...and the military will move the car back for us for free, but bringing them up to US safety and emission standars is pretty expensive from what I've heard....
I LOT of the guys here have Skylines and Silvia, 300ZX's, Supras etc...they're super cheap here...and they all look into getting them home...most people dont do it though...too expensive....
But its damn nice to drive one here, and go to junkyards FULL of JDM stuff hehe...

Yeah, for some reason that picture makes it look REALLY high....but yeah, it needs to drop a bit....one of the first things I plan to do to it when I get past x-mas...
As for the Marines....I dont know if its the same throughout Japan...but here in Okinawa the single marines aren't allowed to own cars....

wow....are you serious? damn recruiters will tell you anything to get you to join haha. i'm probably not gonna join the marines unless i don't get accepted to the college of my choice. and still then, i'm going to have to think VERY hard about going to the marines
