de-smelling a 95 hatch.
Well...
I took out my carpets, vacumed, cleaned and febreezed them
Then, I febreezed the seats, cleaned out the ash trays (previous owned was a smoker) by washing them with a hose and soap.
Leave windows open for car to air out for about 24 hours.
Finally, buy 2-3 air fresheners (ones that look like little bags with beads in them) and place them under seats, or where ever you see fit.
After that, leave car sealed up when not in use and you'll be good to go.

Febreze, carpet shampoo, interior shampoo, Windex...
Leave no surface untouched. It's going to take a buttload of elbow grease, but you can get it to smell normal.
Good luck.

my hatch smelled like wet dogs when I got it and had dog hair all over the seats and carpet. Febreeze and vacuum cleaner didn't work. So I shampoo'd my seats and took out my carpet and scrubbed it cleans in my tub. I filled my tub with hot water and laundry detergent. Car smells awesome now.
P.S. - I don't have OCD

Another real good trick to make it smell fresh and to actually do something, not that i completely understand is to place a static sheet (that you use in the dryer when washing clothes) under both of your seats, and in the trunk if you like. Was told about it and it seemed to work good for me and some others... Try it out

here's an useful old trick you can try, it's proven to work great in removing harsh odors without doing the extreme crubbing, vacuming or washing of the interior...

I detatiled for a long time and i found that nothing owrks better than charcoal under your seats. Shapoo the interior definately. It may cost a bit to get it done, but it will be worth it. Unfortunately for smoked cars, the smell mostly comes fromt eh headliner of the vehicle. To clean this, you must use a headliner cleaner. Any regular shampoo is too abrasive and you will have a hanging headliner like those old *** cars driving around with the dropped ceiling. The charcoal does the smae thing that baking soda in the fridge does, sucks up unwanted odors, but don't let anyone kick the bag or you will have black **** all over your carpets. febreeze only works on the area that it was applied to, but the smell will return if the odor wasn't fully removed, the nature of the beast. Steaming and shampooing are the most effective ways. It's like washing your cloths; youcan take a ****** bath (coving with cologne) but the smell is only coved up for a while, it will return unless you clean your cloths.
any other remedies? what is a good way to clean the sets without soaking them? Or if I soak them, what is a good way to dry them?
