It depends on the B-motor. Low compression B-motors (B20B, B18A, B18B) run fine on regular unleaded (87 octane). This is what Honda recommends. The B20Z, on the other hand, has a higher compression ratio than other non-VTEC B-motors (9.6:1). It is also knock sensor equipped. And keep in mind that while Honda recommends regular unleaded, Civic swappers use Integra ECUs to run these motors. The Integra ECU has less than optimal fuel maps AND does not read the knock sensor. So if you have this motor, you probably want to run midgrade (89 octane). I do. Premium fuel (91+ octane) is recommended for ALL DOHC VTEC B-series motors.

Well up here in the okanagan I use 94 octane because it is the only gas that is brought in by a truck from a safge source. The rest of it is piped in from a nearby station. This pipe gets gas then diesle pumped throught the same one like gas for a day then diesle then gas again which really screws up everything. They dont flush it before they change mixtures so you fuel pump will go kaaaaplut obver time.
