Default Do I need a new LSD? I broke it a little bit..

Well when taking my tranny off, I guess I fucked up bad and chipped this part of the LSD:

I guess I'll have to buy a whole new hellical assembly?

SON OF A BITCH I'M PISSED!!!!!!!

The big question is: Would it be ok to drive for a week?

oh god I hope not, this is gay.

It broke off clean in 2 pieces. I took them out..

It is not close to the splines in the LSD. Anyone else think it would be ok?

I dont know the answyer to your question but I will give you a bump. The worst thing you can do is drive your car when its not in a condition to drive, MUCH better to be safe than sorry. Good Luck

Ps.. Try posting in the tech section and the members corner too, that may help.

I wouldn't drive on it anyway since you'd have to take off your tranny again when it's time to fix it.

Why did you even take it apart if you didn't know what you were doing?

This was accidental, and it has nothing to do with taking the case apart. It doesn't take the smartest guy in the world to pull a tranny off. It doesn't take the smartest guy in the world to know that you can pull a case off a tranny without messing with the gear clusters too. I wasn't messing with that stuff, I was replacing a shaft (which I did).

It slipped and chipped the edge of the LSD when I was in the process of pulling the whole tranny off w/the clutch housing.

I learned my lesson and I won't **** up again..

Anyways, those pics look EXACTLY like what mine does. (I was looking for them earlier, thanks)..

I guess I'll be looking into a new one. ****.

learning from mistakes might be costly in some cases, but in all cases the knowledge you get out of it is priceless. especially since you can warn other people of what NOT to do in that specific case.. that inturn can save a lot of people on h-t some money

You've got me all wrong.
I'm paying others to build it for me!
I just draw up the operating parameters.

I wouldnt buy a OEM LSD if i had to get a new one... I would buy a Quaife or ATS (even though its expensive)

I don't have the money although I RREALLY would rather have another.

In fact, I have no money. I have to get my mom to loan me this and I get to pay her back, on my 7.50$ and hour job. This blows sooo much it's not funny.

Thanks for those links. I PM'd those guys who are selling the LSD's.

Damn dude, I'm sorry to hear. I wish I was there to help you out ...

It would be an 'opportunity' to replace the OEM LSD with a stronger aftermarket one.

I would buy a Quaife or ATS (even though its expensive)
I agree, Quaife and ATS are both fine LSD's. However, the ATS I believe is clutch type, and it has not been on the market for long enough for me to be able to justify the cost. The Quaife is proven, and will last longer, but clutch type LSD's (like the Kaaz and ATS and Cusco) will hold more power and are way more aggressive, but more routine care is needed.

I hope things turn out ok.
You can alwyas msg me if you need help.

What kinda LSD is that? Why can't you get replacement parts or send it back to have it rebuilt if its a KAZZ or a Quaife? If its a type R LSD and you were happy with it and don't have any near plans for crazy power, just buy another one.

I'm not planning on anything major. I think the stock LSD will be more than enough for me untill I'm out of college, and that's when I'll probably be ready to buy/build another car..

92TypeR - You're always one of the first people I message lol. You can count on a message if I run into a question.
