Default Type R over rated?

So Im at this party about 2 weeks ago and i begin to talk to this guy about cars, nothing specific really and i dont totally remember all the topics we went over. But some how we ended up talking about the type R. He then began to tell me how over rated it was and how it wasn't worth the money. He said you could have a much better gs-r for the difference meaning take the 4 thousand in savings and dump it in the car.

I then proceded to ask him where he got all his honda knowledge, because i could tell that he had basically none. He was saying stuff like man i can get a jspek type r motor for like 3 grand and put it in a gs-r. So to make a long story short he ends up telling me he dosent know much about hondas which i had allready figured out. And he has this pos rustang sitting out side all stock with a faded *** paint job that he was talking about like it was the ****.

At this point im sure your asking what the **** was the point of this topic, the point was basically me venting on how this sorry *** mustang owner is telling me i have an over rated type r, and a gs-r would have been a better investment when he knows nothing about type r's or hondas in general. O well thats it im through with my rant.

give me a break on spelling and punctuation ive been working on it.

Type Rs are overrated. By the ricers, the idiots and whatnot. That's what keeps our cars on an endangered list.

It's a fun/great car from the factory. Not everyone gets it but it wasn't meant to be understood by everyone. Whoelse in their right minds would go plunk down money on a car that's as obnoxiously loud from the factory as our cars.

with 4000. you will never make a gsr like type R

you will end up spending more money just to make a gsr like a r. and that's stupid.

different tranny, body, suspension,i mean tell the guy.. go out there and test drive a gsr. ... it's totally different car IMO.

NO gsr will feel like a ITR.. even though some will perform better than r depends on the mods. but ITR is has NEVER over rated. It's "R"-rated

I feel that my car was one of my best investments. I dumped a ton of money into my Civic before realizing that it would be a lot cheaper to just buy the car I wanted (and was trying to build). Honestly, I don't really care how other people rate my car, as I am the one who drives it every day.. and for the record, I couldn't be more happy

It is overrated by the masses and those who don't own one. To keep it basic, it is a big step above a GS-R (I had a 94 GS-R for 5 years) and people don't think that it's worth the extra price, even though the price difference really wasn't that much when new. I try not to talk my car up ever, and just shut up and drive it. It's rediculous what a few things do for a car (LSD, larger rear sway, etc)

Also, driving a beater makes you REALLY appreciate an R even if its very stock like mine is. Only mods here are Recaro SRDs and JDM rear strut bar.

I'll play devil's advocate...

Lets say a GSR owner and an ITR owner want to modify their respectively stock cars. Engine internals, exhaust system, suspension etc.

Yes, for the GSR owner to makes his car identical to an ITR, it would take more than the extra $4,000 it would cost to to simply buy an ITR to begin with. On the other hand, he wants to surpass the performance of an ITR with his modifications.

The ITR owner, also spends money on similar modifications to his stock car. He just spent an extra $4,000 for the ITR, but now has spent thousands more.

The end result? Both may be very similar cars in terms of power, suspension etc... key performance differences being the tranny, 5 lug and LSD? But the ITR owner may have spent more money on his car.

uts on the flame suit:

o god please dont start with the ITR is not a drag car im aware that it isnt. And stock 5.0's are putting down like 15's so can someone please tell me how 15's are faster than 14's. How is that possible maybe im just retarded but i thought 14 was faster than 15 but correct me if im wrong. ITR is not a drag car its a track car i know but there is the occasional straight liner in my car not very ofter though cause i dont like to beat on the car and dont wanna street race.

i guess you’d have to take into account that, aside from his ignorance, he’s incapable of thinking of a car's performance in any other way shape or form than a straight line; that notwithstanding I totally understand the need to vent -rob

i'm pretty sure the R will kill the stang at the tracks. (auto-x)

i have a gsr, and when i thought about it, to (near) equal a type r,
id have to get a type r tranny, some engine work, rear/front sway/strut bars,
suspension work, and not to mention the bigger/better brakes the itr has.

parts alone will equate to atleast 4grand, not to mention labor....and there's
still stuff that a type r has that i can never equal, like a stiffer chassis.
and that's a stock type r.

the 97 type r even comes without a rear windshield wiper/wiper motor to
make it lighter. if the type r's weren't stolen so much i prolly woulda got one.
then again gsr's get jacked too but not as hounded by car theives as
type r's.

i think type r's are underappreciated.

I love my R. I had a 96 GSR completely redone......cams, cam-gears, intake, headers, exhaust and my Type R would blow the doors off my old GSR. Another thing GSRs dont have is resell value, Type R's dont depreciate the way GSR's do.

Undeducated Ricers expect too much from the Type R. When I tell people how much HP I have or what I did at the 1/4 track, they're like:

"that's it? I thought Type Arrs ran low 13 sec quarter mile yo!?"

Idiotic people.

As a GSR owner, I must say that ITRs are not overrated and you can't build a gsr for 4 grand and come remotely close to what a Type-R is out of the box. The ITR is definitely worth it over the GSR whether they were new or even used today. Sometimes, I wish I bought a Type-R instead.

I agree. I was going to build a hatch, then I relized I just need to buy an R or an S2000. Its not worth all the money I would have to put into it.

True, I was really unhappy the first day I drove the car back home from the dealer. It seem so slow and loud and rough....I brought a R because of I am a big fan of Best Motoring and the ITR seem to be one of their favorites.
Well, time past quickly, and my liking or not for the ITR can be shown through the possesion of my second ITR...CW #1027.
