Default H23

ok, my g/f has a 92 prelude Si. yesterday it broke down and the shop she had it towed to said "there is water inside the engine" and that she needs a new motor. i haven't looked at it yet because i haven't had time but by what she told me she's gonna need a new long block and a new radiator.
oh, and when it happened the car overheated and then stalled. when it got to the shop they started it and they said it drove fine. they also said they couldn't find anything wrong with it.
then the next day they told her she needs a new engine?!?!
i know her car and i maintained it myself. it has 127K miles and it runs very smooth, we never had any problems. everything that needed to be changed was changed regularly, and it was done right. plus, she drives very slow and never abuses that car.
now, i'm thinking they want to rip her off because she's a girl. how in world can it run fine when they first got it and then the next day her engine is fucked?
well anyhoo, anyone want to take any guesses as to what it could be?
also, just in case, where in so.cal. could i get an H23 long block for a decent price?
thanks guys.

if the motor had hyrdo locked which is what happens when water gets into the combustion chambers (basically breaks and bends stuff because water isnt compressible), a motor will not run if it is hydro locked or if it does it will run extremely poorly. thats the only real bad thing that water can do to the motor, sounds like the mechanic is trying to pull a fast one

i just asked my dad what it could be and he said it mostly the head gasket or a thermostat or water pump..... and if it ran over heated long enough then there a possibility that the motor could be fu*ked up........my car did the same it just stalled on me and died but i didnt over heat. does she have a cai? an h23 is a very hard engine to find. i just found mine just 1 week ago from cns motors (714) 554-0661. ask them if they are gonna get any more and they are located in santa ana, ca. i bought mine for 1500 but i think 1300 or 1400 with exchange with your old motor, i havent returned my old one yet. but anyways make sure they arent ripping you off! its better of you can open up the motor and if its messed up do the swap yourself if you know how or ask a friend that knows how. me and my dad did mine and im getting the ecu retuned cause i used to have turbo. i hope my info helped good luck man!

damn, i just talked to her again. and this time she said it was making a clunking sound before it stalled. it turns out the body shop didn't even look at it yet because it's uhm... a body shop. not a mechanic shop. her friend works there and they had it towed there because they were open late and she didn't know where else to tow it. so i guess she can say byebye to the motor and start looking for a new one. my guess is that it did get hydro-locked, hence the water in the motor and the clunking sounds. i'm trying to make her drop in a typeS H22 or a euroR.
but she ain't buyin it so far...

Yeah it sounds like a bunch of BS. I'd recommend you go down to that shop with her, make them tell it to your face, then make them show you and explain to you why in the world she needs a new engine all of a sudden.

edit - that was based on your first post.
