Default Cracked ringland, now I have a few choices...

I just did a leakdown test on my car and the results were not pretty. It turns out I have a cracked ringland causing the loss of compression on cyl 4 (40psi) The rest are perfect . My problem is I am stuck on what to do from here, I cant make my mind up.

The car is currently sitting at the shop where I get all my work done and I told him that I'd let him know by tomorrow what I want to do. Should I A) Rebuild w/ GSR pistons B) Rebuild w/ LS pistons C) Go aftermarket i.e JE/Eagle..etc D) sell the car E) any other suggestions you might have

Letter C appeals to me but I am not intending on turning up the boost, I would rather just go with my plans to tune it with Hondata stg. 3b

I am stuck, so any oppinions or previous similar experiences would we great. Thanks a lot.

Oh...my car is a 95 gs-r w/ 97k on it
Mods. JRSC w/ 8lb pulley, I/H/E, Portflow head w/ P&P job, 3 angle valve job, full ignition...misc others but that is the big stuff I believe off of the top of my head. Anyway, thanks again

Yes but do you see fit in spending extra money to drastically lower the compression even though im only running 8psi? I mean the engine makes some of its power due the compression with this low boost setting.

option c

get custom 10:1 JE pistons...........should work very well with the JRSC and hondata tuning........

If you have the $$$ for C, then go for it

The fact still remains that I dont intend to raise the boost.

That's the same reason why I just went and got LS pistons. Also, my friend gave me them for free...but regardless, I would have probably gotten LS pistons anyway. LS pistons in a B16 = 8.5 compression....which is also good for my boost. Anyway, although the performance pistons will probably be safer, LS pistons will probably do just fine. I can't tell you for sure because I haven't driven my car yet =\

10.5-10.8:1 forged pistons and some tuning. Stock compression ratio or a little higher is fine on 8lb, regardless, cast pistons will not last. You need to use some colder plugs and tune a little better or you will do the same thing to the forged ones.

I just came across the JE/Eagle deal on H-T from Damonboost, so i think im gonna go with the 9:8:1 JE's and Eagle rods. If you havent checked it out, its a real good deal.

Thanks for the help fellas.

I to blow out the ring lands on my B16a motor. Tear it down and see if the cylinder walls have been damaged. If so then bore them out a little not much and go for the 9.8:1 pistons and rods and you will be fine as long as yo have a good tuner.Thats what I did with my motor and I run 18psi. Cost about $2500- 3500 for new parts and labor. That is new rods, pistons, Engine gasket set, Bore, check head, Hope you did not hammer your valves also because that is added expenses.

Yea man that soounds great, ive already made an appointment to send it to the machine shop for a little bore and refinishing. This time around tuning is going to be my main priority. I procrastinated on it last time, never again, it will ruin you.
