Default Roll cages?

Just gutted the rear of my 91 hatch-need to know about roll cages. I know absolutely nothing about them yet. do they come assembled or do you assemble yourself? how much $? where to buy? will they fit with reclinable bucket seats? should I even use reclineables? padding on roll cages? difficulty of installation? any welding required? some slight modification to interior metal mounting areas? There's one guy that has a hatch like mine with a roll cage in the back, but he's the cockiest *** I've ever met. I don't feel like asking for his advice because he probably just dropped it off at a shop to have it done and knows nothing about it. Thanx for any info.

He must be very happy, then.

First start with the basics. Why do you want a roll cage? What are you going to be using the hatch for (autox, drag, etc)? How much of your interior do you want to lose?

It's hard to say when you didn't give much information on what you want to do. But, you could go to http://www.ioportracing.com to see what they offer. They've got a decent FAQ section.

I went with an Autopower rollbar in my crx - I do autocrossing, and wanted something for my race harness, in addition to the added security of having the bar. It all depends on what you want to do, and how much money you have, of course.

Anyone know of a roll cage kit that you can keep your complete interior with? I would also be interested in one that bolts together so I could take it apart if needs be. Thanks!!

like someone mentioned earlier.. why do you need one? first figure that out, then get one, there are different types for different uses (drag racing vs. road racing)

I was thinking of getting an Autopower roll bar for my Hatch. I heard that for the bolt in ones you have to drill holes through your car. Anyone installed one before?

-You assemble them (either bolt together or weld together).
-$ depends on design. $500-800 bolt-in, $1000-3000 custom welded.
- http://www.ioportracing.com for Autopower, http://www.kirkracing.com for Kirk, local for custom.
-Yes with reclinables, but you can't recline obviously.
- Always pad the cage. SFI for head area, standard for everything else.
- Bolt-in are easier to install than welded if you can't weld, but accross the board they're a huge PITA to install.
-Welding depends on cage. Some no, some yes, some a mixture.
-bolt-in don't require surface prep, but I did for mine to make larger plates. Welded does require surface prep.

Pick of Kirk cage in CRX (mine):

Link to my autopower vs. kirk thread since I have had both (rollbar info too):

Then answer the questions everyone has been asking. Why needed, budget, etc.

I have an autopwer roll bar with a harness bar, powdercoated red, for a 4th generation hatch. It's gorgeous, never been used, and I have all the hardware to install it.

PM me if you're interested!

That kirk racing cage looks phat. HOw much did that run at? I also need a cage that retains 2 front seats on my crx. It is drag racing legal right? Since my car is a daily driven street car?

Bolt in is the way to go unless its a full race car. My friend and I did one today in his 87 crx. It was an Autopower cage and it fit great. We did a combination of bolting and welding. We bolted all the floor connections and are welding all the other connections.

That's similar to what I did with mine pictured above. It's a bolt-in kit that has new (much larger) mounting plates welded to it and welded to the floor. It also has (not in the picture which is out dated) welded door bars and a welded dash bar. I haven't welded the sleeves together yet, but I will. I'm very happy with it.

I sent you an IM. I have the pictures you're looking for.

If anyone else is wondering, mine ran just under $800 shipped. That's more than their base price because I added a nASScar door bar to the dr side, "X" bar for the ps side, a petty bar, and a rear cross brace which were all options. Comes with the dash bar though

As for NHRA rules for cages, I know they're different vs. SCCA rules, so I couldn't say for sure.
