what you mean all the time? like going 60 constantly on the freeway in 3rd gear all the time? it's ok to rip your car once in a while or hit the track, i don't think those rpms are safe in any car for long periods of time

Is it ok to cruise at around 4000 RPM? I do that sometimes and wondered if it was ok for the car.

uhhhh, i used to drive my car around in like 3rd gear goin 50-60 all day..... i think the typeR can definetely handle that kinda driving - i had the mugen ecu so i was in vtec since like 4700 or wutever and i would cruise around at like 5000-6000rpm for long periods of time. just check your oil! ahhhhhhh oilllllllll. on the highway i would be in vtec with the mugen computer cruising in 5th

I still don't see this typo you're referring to, but in the future I'd ask that members keep this board clean.

there are days when i'm in vtec all the time, .. wait a minute.. thats every day

just don't stay in high rpm in same gear for long time, you will burn oil easy that way..

G3-TEG and I went to Alberta from British Columbia.... City limits to City limits about 800miles away.....

There was A LOT of VTEC time.....especially for me since I have the JDM FD.... 100mph between the provinces 6000rpm+ for me....for literally 2-3hours at a time.... gas mileage = poop.....but we got there quick.....

Total oil burned for the trip....about 2 and a bit more quarts.

Is VTEC fine for a long time? Must be....cuz he had to drive back 3 days later....I drove back a week later.....same brisk pace if not faster....

I don't drive in VTEC. I turn the Xover up on my power FC to save gas

I don't have an R but I did a 600 mile trip last week and kept it between 90 and 100 most of the time. That's VTEC in a GSR. I checked the oil when I got there and when I got back...surprisingly, it was normal. I'm sure if it was an R the even higher revs might have burned some.

I have a normally 9 hour drive from college back to home and I usually make it in 7-7.5. Needless to say, even with my stock FD I am in VTEC quite a bit. Even when cruising I'm at least at around 4500 rpms for hours at a time, and my car is doing fine so far after many such trips. Just make sure you've got plenty of oil and don't bother calculating the gas mileage, it's too depressing

Ooh, a great analogy opportunity.

If you kick somebody's *** enough, they will eventually sustain permanent damage.

Hmmm...
For me it`s normal... I drove topspeed for two or three hours...
You can`t drive an ITR lower than vtec on a german Autobahn. Too dangerous because too slow. Much safer to drive 190-220 km/h all the time, because the big BMW`s and Porsches always screaming from behind at topspeed.

I don`t see any danger in running vtec all the time for two reasons:

1) The vtec engines wouldn`t have come to Germany if it wasn`t alright.
2) The small lobe of Toda spec b is like the stock Vtec-lobe and people run them

A stock ITR motor will survive a 12 hours endurance race without a problem. I know someone that does that alot. Actually, that's the only thing that ITR does; endurance races....
