i was wondering because the oil that is in my type r right now is penzoil bulk 10w 30 non-syn. wondering if that oil would heat up and thin out quickly causing my vtec to cut in and out and hesitate after being really warmed up. thanks

none...change it regularly and check oil levels

 

any idea on the vtec cutting in and out then?

 

heard a rumor that generic penzoil is wax based.

all the technicians i worked with refused to put it in their own cars even though we got the stuff for free.

might want to look into it, especially on an engine with high stress levels.

No the GTX is not synthetic.
I use Castrol GTX with Hamp oil filter on my R.

 

i would guess it doesn't lubricate as well, and because of the excess friction, create extra heat within the engine, as well as excess wear on parts.

but like i said.......i don't know for sure, you'll have to look into it yourself.
