Default Burning oil

My car is buring like a quart of oil like every 1000 miles. I was using castrol GTX 5W30 and it was burning. So I switched to Valvoline semi-syn to see if it would help any, but it didn't. What could it be? Rings? Valve guides?
My mods are:
CTR intake cam
Iceman CAI
DC 4-1 header
test pipe
Thermal R&D 2 1/4" catback
B&M FPR at 48 psi(vac. line on)

I used to burn a good amount (not an alarming amount, but noticeable, and smelly) with Mobil1 5w30. During high revs even on the the highway (or around town) i'd smell burning oil occaisonally. Nothing was wrong internally. I moved to 10w30 and have never had anything similar happen. hope that helps.

I recommend a minimum 0W40 or 5W40. If it is generally warm during the winter season, you could maybe try a 10W40 (I would consult the oil's spec sheet first though). I'm not going into details right now as to why I recommend these weights.

Regards,

Oz

I'm in the same boat. Burning about 2.5-3 quarts per oil change. Switched from Mobil 1 5W-30 to Mobil 1 10W-30 to Vavoline 10W-30 Synthetic to Valvoline Max Life 5W-30. All burn about the same amount (within a 1/4 quart). I'll try a 10W-40 or some other 40W to see if it reduces consumption, but am not optimistic.....

thicker oil like 10w-40 or 5w-40 is better suited for racing and if your car loses say a quart in 2000 miles. anything more than that probably is i need of a rebuild. MOTUL 10w-40 is really good. only thing is, it cost too much.

Would I lose any power from switching from 5W30 to 5W40 since the oil is thicker?
