i dont know if this sounds stupid, or what would be involved, but say you have an ITR, and so does a friend, how hard would it be to swap the lock sets over? (i dont know if the transponder chip would mean swapping ecu's or immobiliser units, or even if it can be done)then if someone gets a key made off your VIN, they will end up with a key for your friends car, and they wont even know it. especially good if you live far apart. hassle yes, saving your ITR, maybee.
does anyone have any idea what percentage of ITR's are stolen, are done by using duplicate keys?
good idea, or not?

I remember about 6 months ago a guy had his R at a car show, and some guy asked him if he wanted to buy a "universal Acura key". (Not knowing he was the owner of the R). The R owner told the seller it was fake and to prove it on his car. If I remember correctly, the seller not only opened his car; but, started it as well, even by-passing the imobilizer!

Only a locked garage with cars blocking the driveway, and a loaded firearm can prevent ITR theft. Sad but true

It sucks when a bunch of auto enthusiasts are forced to buy "beaters/daily drivers" to protect a $25K car. The only way you can be sure that your car will be safe is to never drive it which isn't a real alternative to most people here.
The only way that we can drive safely isn't layering our security or going overboard with paranoia. If the laws are changed to make auto theft a far more severe crime and the police have more man power to enforce these laws. Perhaps making thieves that are caught payback to the community in the value of the car through community service (at minimum wage - make them clean sewers or something).
Too bad vigilantism isn't acceptable in our society.
Either way, my thoughts about all of this is that we should go out and enjoy our cars. Drive them to motorsport events. Be it drag racing at a quarter mile track, autocrossing or HPDE events. Beat on these cars like they were meant to be beaten on. Lets get our moneys worth. But make sure these ******* thieves get some well worn cars if they do decide to continue preying on our cars.

I personally have just come to grips with the reality of the situation. I love my car and cherish it more than anything...but I am not going to cast aside my enjoyment of it simply out of fear. I enjoy it every day that I have it like it could be the last. I am happy that way.
Rather than "drive it like you stole it" it should be "drive it like it will be stolen"

not word for word but.. yeah.. i guess i didn't coin that phrase.the universal key thing is scary.
I think most R's get stolen with a tow truck.
This particular one and it happens all the time to people, when they lose their keys.
I had to unlock the car to put the E-brake down open the hood to disconnect the shift linkage since it was an automatic. So it would've been much easier on our cars,Used a floor jack to lift the rear end and push it over to face the rear-end towards the truck.
Then proceed to winch it up.
All said and done from arrival took me twelve minutes. And how long do you stand in that post office line??.
The best thing i'd say as a tow truck driver to make it a pain in the ***.Would be to always park face in,but not just to another spot.Like a wall a parking curb.In between two cars i know that part sounds scary but hey would you rather have door dings or no car at all,Also have the wheels turned completely to left or to the right.Or always park next to the curb with your wheels as close as possible with the wheels turned towards the curb.Or if you can find a type of CLUB that pushes the brake pedal down and locks the steering wheel, that would be very effective, unless they broke it of course.
Well hopefully this helps
and have a merry christmasJustin
Thanks to the great media/magazine like SCC, SS, H Tuning......etc
They "cook" the ITR like a $25000.00 Diablo
Everyone from 12 years old THINK our car is a super fast machine; Drop an ITR engine into civic will become a street killer.......etc. What can we do? Foeget it man

The politicians should make it simple. Steal a car, loose your licence for LIFE!
In some countries they will cut of your hands if you pinch something.
As far as towing goes...around here they have little dollies that they slide under the front or rear wheels, then they lift the other end. Much easier than getting in and taking off the parking brake. The tow ttruck drivers arounf U of Maryland will tow you if you even turn your back for a second.

Pop up tow dollies cannot be put under the front wheels if the wheels are turned all the way to the left or right. The car will not sit safely in them, if you consider tow dollies safe at all. I personally don't like them, they unload all too easily. Listen to JDMITR222, I've spent two years driving a wrecker and I know what he says makes it a real pain in the *** to pick up a car.
Nose first into a hard curb or wall, turn front wheels all the way to left or right. Attempt to turn them so backing out would cause the car to carreen into something solid. Leave car in 1st or reverse with E-brake tightly set. You can make it difficult, and slow them down. Stealing a car is all about being quick, so the more you can slow them down, the more likely they are to get caught. A difficult car to steal isn't hard to spot once your looking for one, so most likely they will pass you bye....that time. Good proffesional thieves will case you out first, you are up to quite a challenge to stop a pro though. Mostly standing by the car all the time with a loaded shotgun in plain site is the the most effective.

Any car parked with the emergency brake on is no match for the winch on a flatbed traler. I've seen those thing pull cars up a ramp at a shallow angle with all 4 wheels dragging. It may be more difficult but it will pull it. No car is safe from a towtruck. Not to mention towtrucks have those dollies.
