anyone ever have this problem before???
so last night i talked to my ex girlfriend.......she has been driving my 94 prelude.....i drive 50 miles each way to school each day, so i have a cruiser for that. but anyway, i just did a bunch of preventive maintenence to it like t-belt, balance belt, water pump, oil strainer, head gasket, yada, yada, yada!! i like to make sure eveything is good on my cars, and with 143K, it couldnt hurt!! so anyway, everything is good, and i tell her when we split up about 2 weeks ago to keep an eye on the oil and make sure nothing is leaking. so last night she calls me and tells me she got home and there was nothing on the dipstick!! then she goes on to tell me she put 4 quarts of oil in it!!!!! AND after driving it for about 20 minutes, and me getting there, oil is no longer registering on the dipstick again!!!! so i jack it up and get under it and have her start it. oil literally starts squirting out from around the oil filter........but its closer to the block. so when i get close enough, i finally notice the external oil cooler is where the leak is. right where it mates up to the block, its coming out from under it. i go to my book and find out there is an O ring under it, and after removing it and seeing the crack in the O ring, i am assuming this will fix my problem. my question is has this happened to anyone else?? i have never heard of the external oil cooler leaking between itself and the block, but since there is an O ring in there, it is easily possibly. please, if anyone else has had this problem, let me know. i am worried.......but i think this is the problem. good thing is that everything that was fixed looks great!!. but let me know if anyone has had similar problems. thanks

Hey bro, here is what a guy from Superhonda.com had to say...;
"currently i still have my h23 motor with 183k in my 4th gen and I finally got all of my parts for my h22 sitting at my friends shop.
Just my luck.....
Two days ago i start my car up and hear an abnormal noise coming from the engine. It was a loud hisssing noise. Kinda sounded like boiling water when it over flows and hits the stove.
I quickly turn my car off, pop my hood, and smell OIL! Oh Crap!
I look underneath my car and see all 4 quarts of amsoil on the ground.
I get the lude towed by a toothless redneck from AAA to my friends shop.
Come to find out that the oil filter housing o-ring split in two.
If you ever noticed on the 4 gens that the filter does not mount right to the block. There is a metal round housing that antifreeze flows around to cool the oil. (people at honda are amazing)
Thats the seal that blew. The seal between the block and the housing.
Anyways i called honda since it is a dealer item(tried napa autozone discount) and the part cost me 1.66 at cost. (normally 2.07)
For all you luders with high miles, i highly advise you to change this part next time you change your oil.
Hope this helps you out!".

Thanks man, very good to know, i'm coming up to around 130,000, i'll do it now anyways!
Unfortunatly for me, i had 4 quarts of mobil1 all over my driveway already from not checking to see if the the rubber gasket on the oil filter was on the old filter when i took it off...i put the new filter on...and then that funny whistling cracking noise...dam i felt like an idiot!!!

well, i stopped and got the gasket yesterday, and it fixed the problem. so to all out there........beware that the rubber O-ring betweent the oil cooler and the block NEEDS replaced!! i knew there was an oil leak somewhere for a while and icouldnt find it. i think it was seeping, and when the O-ring finally split, then the oil started gushing out. i dorve it for a while last night, and it seemed fine. took a few trips to 120mph, and everything was A-OK. so ill be watching it. definatlety a maintenence item we should not over look!!!!! thanks for the help.
