Why my cat rattles... or... How to save half a pound :P
Today on the way to work it sounded like my exhaust pipe was draging on the ground. So I jack up the car when I get home from work and I find this
1 weld in the corner left so I pull out a screw driver and a bfh and pop off the top shield
Sounds better now, but there is still a rattle, whether it is in the cat or header or what not, its not bad and I can cover it up with the radio
Rotated my tires while I was at it too... AC jack roxors

Just go back to open header, then you won't hear any rattles
MugenMike, who also had to rotate tires (and should take out a little camber

Sorry for the OT, but what tools are you guys using to hit that third top bolt? Without removing the b-pipe and cat, I really don't see a way to get it perfectly tight with the little space given. I ended up using a ratchet and a hinged extension so that it could get to that bolt, but it was still a bitch because I could barely turn the damn thing a couple millimeters at a time. thanks for the info

I bet you your interior is going to be a lot warmer in the future without the heatshield on that cat. Careful that you don't melt anything or set the ground on fire when you park your car in longer grass (i.e. WeTodd picnic style)

i had the same problem with my heat sheild, started rattling like crazy.
so i took it off. now my car is so quite and i had no problem so far.
i live in canada and its more cold here so i think that helps my car from heating up.
when i drive my car in the winter, it sort of feels like i have a Aem intake..

If you still have some rattles, it might be coming from some loose chunks of honeycomb bouncing around inside your cat. Remove the cat and dump all that garbage out before it gets lodged in your piping somewhere and blocks up your exhaust. Once that happens, you won't have any power past 4000 rpms.
Are you planning to sell that cat heatshield?
