Turob is not a good option for auto-x as the car will have to be on boost all the time to run smooth and consistant times. I've seen highly boosted cars out there (RX-7 and Supra's) and just does not seem to work nicely. As soon as the boost hits, you need to brake because your accelerateing too fast. Supercharger would be a better route if FI is the way you want to go for Auto-X, it is a much more linear power band, but will not be as fast in a straight line as a turbo for the 1/4 mile.

.....I somewhat disagree:

I feel that a small turbo will give you greater output (more area under the tq curve), and can be utilized with awesome results - as long as you left foot brake to keep it in the boost, and have traction i.e. wide *** tires.

I have been trying to finalize my turbo setup for next year.

I'm allmotor right now and it's fun, but you always want more y'know?

I would argue somewhere in the middle.

If you want to turbo a car that was not turbo from the factory a number of things have to be considered to make it run well - specifically ECU/fuel tuning, cooling and throttle response. Turbo size will be the most important factor in throttle response/lag.

Assuming the engine is tuned and running well - there is not a HUGE disadvantage to running a turbo car in autocross or road course situations. If you know the car's behaviour well - you will be able to get the car to perform just as well as an N/A car. You MIGHT have problems hooking up unless you have a good LSD, you MIGHT experience turbo lag at the exit of a turn and thus lose a couple of seconds of potential time - but not to the extent that you are going to lose a competition. There are SO MANY other factors involved - that I wouldn't worry about it.

The only thing I would worry about is adequate cooling and not running too much boost if you're using a stock bottom end. If you are putting the turbo on a "built" motor I would still run the boost on the conservative side (say 85%).

Well Im not sure how many of you have driven both a SC'd and Turbo'd car, but Im happy to say I had to chance to do so. I own an integra that used to be turbo (in the process of going back) and ill say, Id never spend the money on a SC, yes the Supercharger does give instanteous power, but after driving my car for so long, it felt so s-l-o-w up top. Everyone says Turbo Lag is so bad. Its really not. Its not any slower than your normal NA acceleration, it just feels that it was slow when your turbo actually spools hard.

You also have to take into consideration traction as well, yes the turbo does bring a lot of power at once, but if you are good with your feet, you can control your wheel spin. As well as the nice invention of boost control, many electronics on the market enable you to adjust boost according to RPM's and/or Vehicle Speed.

If you take a Turbo, a little Electronic Ingenuity, and good Coordination and Viola you have a bad *** machine (of course other factors involved).

Bottom line, you give me a car w/ a turbo running 7 psi I bet you $$ i can beat the same car w/ a SC running the same 7 psi and same conditions.

IMO

T25 = autox turbo, small and spools up fast, not much lag, good power gain
T3/T4 = ***** to the wall drag turbo, slower spool, big power gains, lots of torque

I chose to go with a T3/T4 because I drag race more often, but if I autox'd I would go with a smaller turbo. Supercharger wouldn't be bad for autox either but not great for Drag racing.

PS. Don't even try to go 10psi on stock internals without a standalone.

T04e/T3 Turbo on 9:1 cr here.

12 times last season autoX and WOW, it was same fun when not more than with JRSC (had one) I drove better times and lag and response is not worth talking about.

Won some goblets and got many many attentions ot the car. I droce only with 0.45 Bar, cause more power is useless.
